Robert Boehlecke Obituary


BOEHLECKE, Robert A.
Age 96, formerly of Gardner Road, Horseheads, passed away Oct. 19, 2007 in St. Louis MO. Robert was predeceased by his first wife, Marguerite in 1964 and his second wife, Olive in Feb. 2007. Bob was born in Buffalo, NY, Aug. 10, 1911, son of the late Albert and Charlotte (Grundel) Boehlecke. He was a graduate of Cornell University in 1934 and retired from the Chemung County Cooperative Extension Service as an agricultural extension agent. After his retirement from the extension service, he was employed at Cornell University as Associate Director of University Development. He was a veteran of the army, Field Artillery Unit of the 27th Infantry Division. He served 3 and one half years in the Pacific Theatre in World War II earning the Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster. He retired from the Reserves as Lieutenant Colonel. Mr. Boehlecke is survived by his son, Robert A. Boehlecke Jr. of Ithaca, NY; daughter, Kathryn (Tom) Fairbrother of Spencerport, NY, Barbara (Mark) Kurzen of Columbia IL; grandchildren, Jennifer Boehlecke (Randy) Suwara, Robert (Carrie) Boehlecke, Sarah Fairbrother (Luke Wassum), Jill Fairbrother, Nancy Fairbrother (Mohsine Badre), Richard (Lori) Fairbrother, Matthew Kurzen, Daniel Kurzen; and eight great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 South Main Street, Horseheads, on Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. where his service will take place at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. David Gerhardt officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira, where Military Honors will be accorded. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either National Parks Service, c/o Superintendent, National Mall and Memorial Parks, 900 Ohio Drive SW, Washington, DC 20024, note on check For WWII Memorial; or to Cornell Plantations, One Plantation Road, Ithaca, NY 14850.
