Adelbert Beard Obituary

BEARD, Adelbert William
Went to be with the Lord on December 3 in Lexington, NC. He was born in Christian Hill, Tioga County, PA, January 14, 1917. He was the son of William Edson and Bessie Erway Beard. Del was raised in Beaver Dams, NY, and a graduate of the Watkins Glen Central School. Del was predeceased by his dear wife of 53 years, Alma Erway Beard; a daughter, Mary Beard Hillerman; three sisters, Gladys Rinehart, Marie Lewis, and Hazel Masin; and one brother, Elmer Beard. He leaves behind a son-in-law, W. Robert Hillerman, Nassau, NY; a son and daughter-in-law, William and Suzanne Beard of Churchland, NC; six grandchildren, Lucinda Hillerman Buckley, Stephen Hillerman, Matthew Beard, Mark Beard, Sarah Beard Berkley, and Nathan Beard; 12 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Alberta Wallace, Alice Chase, and Marion Beard. Mr. Beard was a longtime resident of the Dundee-Himrod area. He worked as a machinist at Eclipse Machine Division of Bendix Corp. in Elmira Heights, NY. It was there that he made B-52 guns for the war effort during World War II. Del was also a grape and fruit farmer and had vineyards in Dundee and Himrod, NY. He will be greatly missed by his family and those who knew him. Calling hours will be at 1 p.m., Friday, December 7, followed by a funeral at 2 p.m., officiated by Pastor Bob Vallet of Elmira, NY. These will be held at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St. in Watkins Glen. There will be a family committal service at the Hector Union Cemetery, Burdett, NY.
