Paul Harabin Obituary

HARABIN, Paul, Sr.
Age 89, of 1006 Hoffman St., Elmira, NY. He was born June 19, 1918 in Larksville, PA, son of the late Matis and Xenia (Vach) Harabin and passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at the Chemung County Nursing Facility after an extended illness. He was the last survivor of his family, being predeceased by parents and all of his brothers and sisters, George, Mathew, Joseph and Jacob Harabin, Mary Buynak, Anna Lavernick, Kathryn Dudascik and Martha Rivell. Paul is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anna (Zubriski); children and their spouses, Judith and Richard Johnson of Charlotte, NC, Paul, Jr. and Marie of Southington, CT, John Mathew and Donna of Pine City and Jean Marie and George Potter of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Christina Stoots and Karen Mongold, both of Concord, NC, Cindy Uanino of Sterling, CT, Daniel Harabin of Charlotte, NC, Richard Harabin of York, PA, Paul and Erin Harabin, both of Southington, CT and Lauren Potter of Charlotte, NC; six great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. Mr. Harabin was a communicant of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. He retired from Flight Service at the Elmira Corning Regional Airport and was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1937 to 1941 and again from 1944 to 1945 during World War II. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Friday, December 14th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Panikhyda will be held at 7 p.m. Prayers will be offered there on Saturday, December 15th, at 9:30 a.m. followed by Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. Rev. Vasile Godenciuc, Celebrant. Committal prayers and interment will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may remember Paul through donations to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. Paul's family would like to extend a very special thank you to the 3rd and 5th floor staff at the Chemung County Nursing Facility for the wonderful care they provided him.

Many years ago, Paul had a telescope in his back yard and showed me my first real close up of the Moon. I know it is small thing, but it stays with me even now. I knew his daugther Judy and we (Roger and Buddy)hung out together. Thank you Paul.
