Her book, Wolf and the Dove was my first exposure to romance novels and I was forever hooked. Her writing was pure poetry, especially Shanna, my favorite.

I met Kathleen during the early 1980s when I was a member of RWA.

God speed, sweet lady.

May the spirit of God comfort your family. The "I miss you" and "I want to see you so much!" days ahead are some of the most difficult.

You will see her again in Heaven where there is no sickness and no separation.

I was saddened to learn of the death of my favorite author, Kathleen Woodiwiss. Her book, "Shanna" got me hooked on romance novels and on her novels in particular. One can tell from her writtings that she must have been a warm and loving wife and mother. She will be greatly missed. It was bittersweet for me to learn that her last novel will be released shortly. I am greatful that I have one more chance to experience one of her creations. I have kept all of her books and will cherish them. God bless all of you.

Winston Churchill once said "cherish your books and those you love best, pick them up, fondle them, let them fall open to your favorite pages." This is how I feel and have felt about the books written by your mother for the past 35 years. Her books gave me hours of joy and love. I will miss her and am sorry she is not in the world somewhere. She has gone to her rest in God.

I am heartbroken to learn of the "world's loss" of Kathleen E. Woodiwiss's life and brilliance. Please accept my condolences to each family member who is most touched by the "loss in his or her world" of a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt.

Ms. Woodiwiss "is" alive to me as a storyteller. I read her books at moments in my life when her honesty, humor, heartache, and hope buoyed me. It is ironic that I learned of her death while attending a writing class at the University of Iowa for Ms. Woodiwiss inspired me to become a writer. Moments before hearing of her passing, I encouraged a classmate to read "The Flame and the Flower" as a touchstone for understanding the emotion of a scene. I trust readers and admirers of Ms. Woodiwiss's talent will champion her legacy.

Please know I wish you all the best at this time. I loved Ms. Woodiwiss from afar and appreciate being able to express my feelings to you. Thank you.

Kindest Regards,
Carol Owens Campbell

I can easily remember the first romance I ever read, The Wolf and The Dove. It was summer and I was "trapped" with my parents at lake house when I wanted to be at home with my friends. My mom went to the flea market and again as a teenager I was "forced" to accompany her. She bought me a box of books and The Wolf and The Dove was in it. I spent the next two days reading it and then insisted on going to the library to get the rest of Kathleen Woodiwiss's books that they had! Suddenly being "trapped" wasn't such a bad thing. I have continued to re-read Kathleen Woodiss again and again over the years and now 20 years later I still have a copy of The Wolf and The Dove on my bookshelf along with several other of my favorite Woodiwiss books. She will be very much missed!

I just wanted to give my condolences to Kathleen's family, fellow readers and authors... I too cut my teeth on Kathleen E. Woodiwiss' books, my favorites being The Wolf and the Dove, Ashes in the Wind, and A Rose in Winter. 1978 (I was 17) was the year I was introduced to Kathleen's books. My boyfriend's mother let me read her copy of "Shanna" and I was hooked! I spent the night at their house and the guestroom was right next to his parent's bedroom. The storyline was so good that I couldn't sleep because I kept thinking about the it, so at about 3:00 a.m. I turned the light back on to continue reading. In comes the boyfriend's mother to see what I was up to (thinking her son had snuck into my room) and she burst out laughing and said "Oh thank goodness" when she saw me reading the book! I should add that it was probably the fourth time I had turned the light back on to keep reading....

Thank you Kathleen for your wonderful stories..because of you I learned to love reading...you will be missed.

My sincerest condolences to her family, may she rest in peace.

Such an extraordinarily talented and valiant author who made a profound impression on untold many millions will be sorely missed.
Looking back, I don't believe the fledgling romance genre would have metamophosed into the considerable and respectable force it is today without MS. Woodiwiss and her articulate, bold, and creative storytelling to peck out a path for us to follow.
My condlences the family and friends upon your great loss. To write so knowledgably of love and its force, one must know how to love greatly, and that is a rare thing indeed.
For those of us who didn't know her personally: When the moving pen continues to write, her unique wordsmithing will remain passionate and eloquent as each elegant phrase blossoms afresh. Kathleen's words have achieved immortality and that means forever.
