Fresh out of school and into North Beach I met Joyce who took me under her wing. We were friends throughout those years----Mona's, Tommy's, and then Ann's 440. I lost contact when I moved to Los Angeles, but I still treasure those memories.
My condolences to all left behind.

I read Ms. Vandeveer's obituary in the paper and want to extend my condolences to her family and friends. What an amazing life.

Just wanted to join in the chorus here. I saw this obituary and started reading. Now I want a copy of that book--I will get online and try to find it! What a fine lady. Wish to heck I had had a chance to meet her. And yes, it's about the time of day when a glass of high-grade Cabernet is calling out to me. Along with some of the rest of you, I will certainly drink a toast in her honor tonight.

I, like another above, was drawn to her obituary by the striking photo. My compliments to whoever wrote the obit--sounds like it captures Miss Joyce's spirit. I read some excerpts online from the Boyd book...wow! And to the Bowerman family: I am sorry for your loss. You sound like good friends yourself.

I was struck by this memorial as well and wish I had known the fascinating Miss Joyce. It sounds as though someone should be writing a book about her life, but in the meantime I will look for "Wide-Open Town." And toast her memory, of course.

What a remarkable woman! I paused to read because of her picture. I would have liked to have known her and listened to her recount her remarkable life.
I will have a galss of cabernet tonight in honor of her! Does anyone know what will happen to Panda?
