James Waugh Obituary

James Daniel "J.D." Waugh, 83, of 104 Flatrock Lane, Statesville, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at his residence. Mr. Waugh was born Dec. 24, 1925, and was the son of the late Lester and Mary Ingles Waugh. He attended Iredell County schools and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Italy. Mr. Waugh was first married to the late Alene Gryder Waugh and on March 27, 1983, was married to Mary Roberta Pritchett Fox Waugh, of the home, who survives. Mr. Waugh was a member of South River Baptist Church and was retired from Southern Screw. J.D. loved the Lord and honored Him through his volunteer missionary work. He was a member of the Yokefellow Woodworking Ministry and was a former Board Member at the Pregnancy Center. After his retirement, he worked as a security guard and also as a nurse assistant at Hill Haven, Iredell Memorial Hospital and Davis Hospital. In addition to his wife of 25 years, Mr. Waugh is survived by three sons, Lonnie Waugh (Mary), of Oak Island, Steven Waugh, of Statesville, and Barry Waugh (Barbara), of Statesville; a sister, Helen Aldrich, of Yanceyville; a sister-in-law, Hazel Waugh, of Statesville; granddaughter, Marie Waugh, of Monroe; two step-granddaughters, Libby Pondo, of Charlotte, and Holly Biggers, of Mobile, Ala. ; three adopted granddaughters, Angela Waugh, Cheyenne Waugh and Amanda Waugh, all of Statesville. Mr. Waugh was preceded in death by three sisters, Connie Waugh, Nellie W. Loftin and Gladys W. McDonald, and by two brothers, Gene Waugh and Arville "Sox" Waugh. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, March 6, at South River Baptist Church with Dr. Hampton Drum and the Rev. Dwight Dowell officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 this evening at Nicholson Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be David McDonald, Danny Earl Aldrich, David Beaty, Dwight Wallace, M.G. Bowes, Gary Austin, Wesley Waugh and Gary Stewart. Memorials may be made to South River Baptist Church, 2659 S. Chipley Ford Road, Statesville, NC 28625. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. James "J.D." Waugh.
