Scott Parks Obituary

Scott Parks, age 43, was born in Gulfport Oct. 16, 1963. Scott passed away in New York City as a result of cancer incurred by the 9/11 attack and exacerbated by fatal medical error. Scott was educated in Gulfport schools and graduated from Gulfport High School. He attended one year at Miss. State University, then earned degrees in Computer Science from University of Southern Mississippi. Scott worked in the Banking industry in New York City and Toronto, Canada. He married Carmen Jerome-Parks. The couple moved back to NYC where Scott landed a very good position with an International Bank in the World Trade Center. Scott was at the WTC on 9/11. He managed to avoid falling debris and bodies in the street, but was engulfed in the great ash cloud. Scott returned to help his company return to business. Scott was diagnosed with a very rare, tiny cancer in Feb., 2005. His oncologist said it was caused by toxic carcinogens on 9/11. A relatively minor medical procedure was horribly botched with defective radiation equipment and mal-functioning hospital personnel. He received massive fatal doses of unshielded radiation. He was not expected to live beyond a few weeks, but he survived tor two terrible years of extreme disability.

Scott is survived by his wife Carmen, NYC, his parents James and Donna Parks, and his brothers Cary, Hampton, VA and Steve, Gig Harbor, WA.

Arrangements in NYC will be a memorial concert on Friday, Feb. 16th at 7 PM, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, NYC and Mass at 2:00 PM, Saturday, Feb. 17th, at the same church.

Scott's family will have a memorial service for Gulfport family and friends on Saturday, February 10th, at 12 noon, at St. John's Catholic Church at 2414 17th St. in Gulfport.

Contributions in his honor may be sent to: Church of St. Francis Xavier, 55 West 15th Street, New York, NY 10011.

Scott was my best friend from grade school to HS. I knew he was ill, but I didn't realize how bad. Perhaps I wasn't as good a friend to him as he was to me. I will miss him.
