Nelson Bryant Obituary

Nelson A. Bryant Nelson A. Bryant, 85, died of natural causes on December 25, 2006. He is survived by his wife, the former Betty Jane Fitzpatrick, his daughters Jo Anne Barnhart, the Commissioner of the U.S. Social Security Administration, and Jan Nell Bryant, Alexandria Adult Basic Education Coordinator; and his grandson, Niles Barnhart, all from Virginia; and his sister, Barbara Ann Walters, of Stuart, Florida. A graduate of Michigan State University, Mr. Bryant was born January 5, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army where he was awarded the Bronze star for exceptional heroism during the Battle of the Bulge in WWII and obtained the rank of Major in the Korean War. In his business career, Mr. Bryant worked in the Public Relations and Advertising Departments at DuPont corporate headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware and was the Supervisor of Corporate Automotive Marketing Communications for the DuPont Company in Detroit, Michigan. After retirement, he and his wife Betty spent their time between homes in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and Vero Beach. Funeral Service and internment will be held at Memorial Park, Memphis Tennessee, on January 3, 2006. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Omaha Home For Boys, 4343 N. 52nd Street, Omaha, NE 68104-9989. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach, Florida. Condolences may be sent through www. seawindsfh.com /obit.php
