I was so sorry to hear the news. I was a pupil at Our Lady and St Paul's Primary in Heywood and Fr Walsh gave me my First Holy Communion at seven years old. He was always so lovely and kind to us. Years later our paths crossed again when I had gone into journalism. I remember the first time I phoned him with a press query and asked if he was the same Fr Walsh. We had such a lovely chat about 'old times' at Our Lady's. He was always wonderfully astute and straightforward in his press office role and it was great to have a chance to get to know him again. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed. God Bless Fr Walsh x

Two stories spring to mind from the time I worked with Father Michael at the BBC.
The first was a clipping he found in one of the religious papers quoting a notice in a Parish Magazine. It said, “Could we remind parishioners that the ‘For The Sick’ box at the rear of the church is for money.”
The second is the time I helpfully offered him some advice several years ago on how to run his church. I suggested he introduced a ‘Three sins or less’ lane at Confessional. He never failed to remind me about it each time I saw him.

A very very sad day it was last Sunday when we heard the news. This lovely man made time for everyone with a warm welcome for all who came to pray at St Pauls. Father Walsh always made a point of including and inviting the young children to take part in the Church. He was so very proud and positive regarding of the number of children taking part in the sacramental programme this year.
You will always remembered and never forgotten. May you rest in peace our dear friend.

I have very fond memories of Father Walsh. I first met him in Manchester at a dinner given by my friends, the Morrisons. What a wonderful conversationalist and interesting man he was! When he visited the United States in the early 2000's, I had the pleasure of being his tour guide in Chicago. Like my sister, he was an American Civil War buff, and we had many discussions about that topic as well. I was so looking forward to seeing him again on my next trip to Manchester. Now, I'll have to wait longer for a reunion.
I feel privileged and blessed to have known him, even briefly.

Father Walsh was a good friend of my sister Theresa and her husband Vincent. Every time I came to visit from the U.S. he joined us for a family meal. He was always good company. I will miss him a lot.
