Hubert Herman Loewenhardt

Stonington - Hubert Herman Loewenhardt, 88, a resident of Stonington passed away Nov. 17, 2025, at Westerly Hospital. He was the husband of the late Jean (Lombardi) Loewenhardt.

Born in Detroit, Mich., he was the son of the late Herman and Henrietta (Ring) Loewenhardt and lived in Stonington for many years. He attended local schools growing up in in Detroit and upon high school graduation he joined the United States Navy at the age of 18 where he was stationed mostly in Groton at the submarine base. Following his honorable discharge in 1965, Hubert went on to work for General Dynamics Electric Boat Division for the next 37 years, retiring in 2002. During his long tenure with EB, he did attend Mitchell College, class of 1971.

Hubert was an avid lover of aviation and enjoyed restoring antique and classic airplanes.

He is survived by his son, Christopher Loewenhardt of Tucson, Ariz.; and his granddaughter, Jade De La Ossa. He was predeceased by two sisters, Pauline and Lucy Loewenhardt; a brother, Joseph Loewenhardt; and a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Morris.

Hubert was a devout catholic and a longtime parishioner of St. Thomas More Church in North Stonington.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 60 Liberty St., Pawcatuck. Following his funeral mass, he will be buried at St. Michael Cemetery in Pawcatuck. There are no calling hours.
