Cheri Sarver Obituary

CHERI SARVER
MISSION - Cheri Sarver, cherished wife, mother, daughter, sister, teacher and friend, is now rejoicing in heaven with her beloved savior. Remaining on this earth remembering her with love are her husband Barney, her daughter Jenifer, and her three beloved sons, Jason, Justin and Jonathan. Cheri's father, Paul Johnson Sr. and stepmother Joyce Johnson, as well as her four siblings, Paul Johnson Jr., Suzi Haines, Doug Johnson and Kathy Carruth, and their respective spouses Sylvia, Rick, Kathy and Dennis also survive her. She has 10 nieces and nephews, and seven great nieces and nephews, as well as aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bernice.
Cheri was surrounded by a loving family of friends to numerous to count, including the staff, parents and students at Covenant Christian Academy (CCA), where she served as principal. CCA was an enormous part of Cheri's life. She gave generously of her time, her talents and her heart to educating the next generation of young men and women by using Biblical principles to produce excellence in every area of life.
She was an active member at Baptist Temple, where she served in a variety of capacities, including women's ministry, choir and children's ministry. Cheri was educated at Berean Bible College in San Diego, California, where she met Barney and together, they have served the body of Christ since that time.
Cheri was a graduate of Sharyland High School, where her four children also went. She had deep roots in the Rio Grande Valley and has touched the lives of countless people in South Texas with her kind words, her compassion and her smile. There is a gaping hole left here on earth, but we know she is now with her savior and friend, Jesus Christ, with whom she has trusted in her whole life.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m., Monday, June 16, 2008, with the family present to receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. at Kreidler Funeral Home, 314 N 10th St, in McAllen. At 6:30 p.m., Monday evening, a Children's Memorial Service will be held at Covenant Christian Academy for all of her students, teachers and parents. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at Baptist Temple, 2001 Trenton Rd, with a reception following at CCA.
In lieu of flowers the Sarver family has set up a memorial fund in her honor to benefit Covenant Christian Academy, which was her passion. Proceeds will benefit the new building, which will be named "Ms. Cheri's Gym" in her honor. To honor her service and her memory, please contact any Lone Star National Bank or mail to 206 W. Barney and kids,

I have been thinking of Cheri and you all so much lately. Between her birthday and the start of school, I know this has been a hard time for you. Cheri's impact on the lives of the children at CCA will carry on from generation to generation as they grow up and start families. While Cheri can never be replaced, Milton will do a good job of keeping her spirit alive as the school year starts and the students deal with her day to day loss. (Although, I'm pretty sure he will never show up to the morning gathering dressed as a swedish bodybuilder.) :) I am so grateful for the opportunity I've had to have you as youth leaders when I was young, and as friends as I've grown. Our prayers are with you all as you deal with missing her.

What wonderful memories I have of Sweet Cheri from my first few years of teaching. Cheri took me under her wing and treated me like one of her own. I have been blessed to know her. May God sustain you with His sufficient grace.

Dear Barney and Kids
I was honored to be a parent and teacher at CCA with Cheri as a mentor and principal for the past 2 years. All of you have not been far from my thoughts for the past two weeks. Even though I do not know all of you personally, I feel like I know the kind of people you are as your mom spoke so lovingly about all of you. You know all of this - you know how blessed you were. Thank you for sharing your mom and wife. She will be missed.

Dear Sarver Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. I will always be grateful for the warmth and compassion that Miss Cheri showed my children. We recently ran into her while shopping. I'm so glad that I got to tell her what a wonderful impact she and Covenant had made on my kids. They are now 14 & 16 years old. They met Miss Cheri when they were 4 & 5 years old. They still remember the wonderful experiences they had under her leadership. We will miss her very much. She was truely a one of a kind. We were blessed to have walked in her shadow.

Sarver & Johnson Families,
As I have already told Suzi, I knew Cheri quite a long time and she always greeted me with a kind word and, of course, that smile! She is one of only a few people I have ever known who I have NEVER heard a single negative thing about, not did I ever hear her say anything negative. What a legacy she has left for those of us who cherish her memory.

May God hold you close, comfort your hearts and ease your pain.

I just learned of Mrs. Sarver's passing today. I visited her quite often at the Academy while working for LSNB. There was always something about her that I was so enamored by. We had endless conversations (not about banking services) & I always left her office with a smile on my face and happy thoughts. I don't think I ever saw her without a smile or a grin on her face. She is a true gem up in heaven and will be missed immensely. God bless the Sarver family.

Jenifer,
You and your family are in my thoughts & prayers. You are one of the most special people in my life and always will be. I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for your big heart and willingness to help others. I met your mother once while she was visting D.C. for your birthday and after just a short conversation with her, I knew exactly where your compassion derived from. You all are a strong bunch. It will get easier to cope and I'm always here when you need me.

To Barney and Family-

I was so sorry to hear about the loss of your wife and mother. My family and I are all praying for your family, but we are sure that Cheri is smiling down on you with pride.

The funeral was beautiful. Your whole family is so strong.

I am sure that the young boy who caused the accident is heart broken himself. I hope that this was God's way of saving a young life by using an extremely faithful woman and her faithful family.

God be with you, and Barney, if you ever need anything, please don't hesitate to ask.

Sincerely-

The Sarver and Johnson Family,
You have all been in our hearts and prayers, and we trust God to strengthen each of you as only He can. Cheri's life impacted so many many people (ours included), and is certainly receiving rewards too numerous to count as she has finished her well-run race. We are so very glad to have known her and that we had that chance to minister with her at one of the school's chapel services this past spring. We grieve with you, but not without hope that it will be very very soon when we are all together again.

To Cheri's Family,

I saw Cheri a few years back at Walmart. She took the time to fill me in on Jen's accomplishments, since I had been Jenny's kindergarten teacher. Of course, I told her how proud I was for her. She also told me all about her being a principal at the Christian School. I was amazed at all the success and proud to have been a part of her life at one time. She and her cousins had been at our church when she was very young. I remember all the family and Barney when he worked with me at Good Shephard. My prayers are with you all and we will all miss Cheri and her sweet spirit. I shall get comfort knowing she is walking streets of gold with her family and friends that have gone before her.

Barney and family,
Bob, Grant, and I are praying for you today as Cheri's celebration service is held. We will certainly be there in spirit even though many miles now separate us, keeping us from being there in person. As I shared this very sad news with Grant after hearing of it, his response was, "Mom, she is in heaven. We don't have to fear death." I was just reminded of her words spoken into his life each and every day in the 3 years he was privileged to attend CCA. We are so thankful for her influence. She has left a valuable legacy! I know Bob got to talk with you Thursday, but I want you to know that we deeply love you and your family. We will be lifting you with each and every thought.

Dear Sarver Family,
My deepest condolences and prayers are with you all. I remember Cheri not as “Mrs. Sarver” or “Cheri”, but as mom… in the sense that if I talked to Jen, I would say, “tell Mom I said hi”. Everyone that was part of our bible study, (the “A” group) in Austin, had the privilege of meeting her, and in a small way we felt we knew her, even though mostly through Jen as we witnessed the closeness in their relationship and received updates on the family. Sarver family, I am truly sorry for your loss, I know Cheri will be tremendously missed. I am encouraged to know of the love of Christ that shines in you all, as well as the lasting impact Cheri has had on your lives and the many others she has touched.

May the Lord bless you, and keep you; May He make His face to shine upon you; And be gracious to you; May He lift up His countenance on you, And give you peace.

Dear Sarver Family, Even though I had only met your wife & mother a couple of times, I knew what a wonderful person she was. I knew that she was the heart of Covenant Christian Academy. That is why I wanted my son to attend their. We wanted a Christian based school, and when I met Ms. Cheri I knew, that was the school for us. When I heard the news, my heart broke. The beautiful smile we would now miss, the kind heart we will not have and most of all, the words of wisdom that she will not share. We are truly saddened by the loss. I wish that we had known her longer, but in the short time that we did, I knew we had a jewel. God Bless You in your time of sorrow. Dear Precious Sarver Family:

Our prayer is that you find comfort in the Lord and in each other. What a great loss you are grieving - take your time and know that you are not alone. Someone gave me a sweet card with this verse when I was grieving a loss - I pray that it brings you comfort as it did me -

For have I not commanded you, be strong and of good courage for the Lord thy God is with you wherever you go.

Joshua 1:9

You are surrounded by God's love.

We love you too -

Ms. Cheri was a true inspiration to anyone who had the opportunity to meet her. She has left an impression on hundreds of lives and her legacy will continue to inspire countless others. She has a special place in heaven for her tireless, loving devotion to God's children. My thoughts and prayers continue for the Sarver family, CCA family, and friends in hopes that the painful loss of such a beautiful woman of God will ease and peace will remain in our hearts.
Our deepest condolences,

My sympathy goes out to the "Sarver" and "Johnson" Family at this time of sorrow and pain. Have fond memories of Cheryl, as she graduated with me from SHS (1970), and she was Miss SHS. Always with a smile on her face. Not a politician, it all just came natural for her and angel from heaven. To all the Johnson Family, memories of all of you...Cheryl will 'NEVER' be forgotten. We Love You! God Bless YOU!

Dear Jen & Family,
You are such an incredible, tight-knit family, and your mother's loss has touched many of us here in DC who have come to know and love you. If there is any comfort to be found in your loss, it is that your mother helped shape each of your spirits, your generosity & drive, and that will always be with you.
With affection & prayers,

Barney & family,
What a ray of sunshine your wife and mom brought...she loved people and it was evident by the way she lovingly listened and smiled. She is a tremondous loss to this earth, but she has graduated and moved into the heavenlies to be with our Lord and Saviour waiting for the rest of us to come home at His calling. We will never forget Cheri. May the Lord continue to be with you all and bring you peace and comfort during this time.

Although I never met Ms Sarver, as a fellow educator I was moved by her story. Her life was a testiment to those persons who ask if angels walk the earth. Yes they do in the form of persons such as Ms Sarver. Take comfort in knowing that God has a very special assignment for this remarkable woman. God bless and keep each of the Sarver family near to him.

Cheryl Johnson Sarver was Miss SHS 1970. Along with Mr. SHS 1970, the late Mike Dalhberg, this royal couple made up one of the most liked pair of students Sharyland has ever seen. Always smiling, always happy, and wonderful person to be around, I remember her well. We will miss you, Cheryl. God bless your husband, children, and extended family.
