Henry George "Hank" Goldup

Henry Goldup Obituary

GOLDUP, Henry George "Hank" - Peacefully, in his sleep on Sunday morning, December 14, 2008 at the Erin Meadows Village. He expressed a desire of attaining the age of 90 years and he did so having been born in Kingston, Ontario on October 29, 1918. He was in residence at Erin Meadows Village in Mississauga. Enough gratitude and admiration cannot express the family's feelings for the staff and facilities at Erin Meadows. Hank was a dear father to Ted and his wife Annie, Carolyn and her husband Robert Heron, Donna and her husband the late John Whitehouse, Barbara (deceased), Glenn and his wife Wendy, Paul, Susan and her partner Nancy, and Tracey and her husband Michael Wallace. Loving grandfather of Jennifer, Peter, Scott, Cory (Matthew), Debbie, Brandy, Garett, Sean, Katelynn, Taylor and Carly and proud great- grandfather of five great- grandchildren. Hank was predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret, sister Florence and brother Fred. His loving companion Helen Derbyshire will mourn his passing. A gregarious extrovert, Hank was never shy about sharing an opinion, but, by example he taught his children to always respect others, be accountable for their actions, and by doing so it would be returned. Hank was an NHL player with the Toronto Maple Leafs including the 1942 Stanley Cup team. He contributed to the community in many ways, from charity Christmas drives to coaching. Hank was constantly active including playing golf until he was 85. He was inducted to the Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame, as well as the Kingston Hall as much for his contributions outside of sports as for accomplishments inside them. He will be missed. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter ''Peel'' Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga (Hwy. 10, north of QEW), from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.

I'm saddened to hear of Hank's passing and wanted to express my heartfelt condolences to you. Hank was a perfect gentleman and a wonderful resident to care for at the Village of Erin Meadows. Though often without words, he communicated to us through laughter, facial expressions and hand gestures. He will be missed by all the staff. Thank you for the privilege of caring for Hank in his final years. May Angels carry him safely to his resting place.

Dear Glenn, Wendy, Taylor and Carly,
We are so sorry about your loss. It seems the longer we have our parents, the harder it is to lose them. We appreciated your beautiful note a few weeks back when Mom passed. Thinking of you all as you honour a great father and grandfather.
