Beatrice Broyles Obituary

BROYLES, Beatrice Walden Johnson, 87, of Highland Springs, went home on August 11. She was born in Richmond on October 20, 1920 to the late John Walden and Agnes Derr. Beatrice had worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" during the war effort. Afterwards she worked in communications for Defense General Supply in Richmond before retiring in 1982. Beatrice was a gifted artist and enjoyed working with her hands by needlecraft, ceramics, drawing and gardening. She was a member of the Highland Springs Women's Club, past historian of Toastmasters, and a member of Newbridge Baptist Church. Survivors include three children, Jacque Armentrout and husband, Gary of Reedville, Randy and wife, Patsy of Henrico, Nancy Cheatham of Highland Springs; two sisters, Dorothy Poe of Mechanicsville and Elsie Creasy of Sandston; brother, Carl Walden of Highland Springs; sister-in-law, Lynette Walden of Richmond; eight grandchildren, Molly Armentrout of Doswell, Regan Waggie and husband, Jimmy, of Doswell, Erin Armentrout of Doswell, Kevin Johnson of Richmond, Ross Johnson of Highland Springs, Keith Cheatham of Highland Springs, Tina Burkett of Varina, and Tonya Thomas of Henrico; five great-grandchildren, Rachel and Sierra Waggie, Stephanie Saunders, Justin Bower and Zachary Thomas. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, at the Nelsen Funeral Home, Laburnum Chapel. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. the following day at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow at Washington Memorial Park.
