BRITTAIN, Zed Ernest, 92, of Ellijay, Ga., formerly of Heathsville, Va., passed away on Friday, August 15, 2008. He was a member of Fairfields Baptist Church, Burgess, Va. Zed was a retired tree surgeon, a member of the American Legion Post 117. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Bell Hicks Brittain; a son, James Roger Bailey Brittain; and a brother, Marvin T. Brittain. He is survived by a daughter, Millie B. Markham and husband, Richard of Chesney, S.C.; a sister, Ruth M. Bumgardner of Charlotte, N.C.; a half-sister, Essie Peters of Shelby, N.C.; a brother, Raymond A. Brittain of North Carolina; three grandchildren, Scott A. Markham of Chesney, S.C., Toni Abernathy of Ellijay, Ga., and Nikki R. Carroll of Marietta, Ga.; eight great-grandchildren; and one great- great-grandson. The family will receive friends at Faulkner Family Funeral Home & Crematory, Burgess, Va. on Monday, August 18, 2008 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, August 19, at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Fairfields Baptist Church Cemetery, Burgess, Va. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3961 Deep Rock Road, Richmond, Va. 23233 or The Director, The National Cancer Institute, Building 31 Room 11A-16 9000 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, Md. 20892. I worked at First Virginia Bank in Heathsville, and saw your father and mother every week. I enjoyed talking and helping them. I recoginzed the name in the paper and wanted to express my sympathy in the death of your father.
