Katherine Goode Obituary

GOODE, Katherine Randolph, former resident of Heartfields, and a retired employee of the Virginia Employment Commission, died on Saturday, August 16, 2008, following a period of declining health. Katherine was born in Boydton, Va. on April 10, 1916, the daughter of the late John Chambers and Lucille Pleasants Goode. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Louise Goode Hutcheson of Chase City, and Virginia Chambers Goode of Richmond; and brothers, John Chambers Goode Jr. and William Sterling Goode, also of Richmond. She is survived by her nephew, Alan Gray Hutcheson Jr.; great-nephews, Kenneth Gray Hutcheson of Richmond, and Major John Sterling Hutcheson, USAF; and great-great-nephew, Tyler Henry Hutcheson, both of Kadena Air Force Base, Okinawa, Japan. She is also survived by her cousin, Gafford Yancey Pleasants of South Hill, Va. In spite of being blind and partially deaf, Katherine was fiercely independent and was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. Graveside memorial services will be held at St. James Episcopal Church Yard, Boydton, Va. on Wednesday, August 20 at 2 p.m. with Father Paul Phillips officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the National Society to Prevent Blindness, Virginia Affiliate, 11618 Busy Street, Richmond, Va. 23236-4060. Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home, Clarksville, Va. is in charge of arrangements.
