Frank Planas Obituary

PLANAS, Frank Joseph, born July 22, 1915 in New York, N.Y., to Anna Chambers and Francisco Planas y Valladares, died August 17, 2008. He is survived by his son, Francis John Planas and daughter-in-law, Gail Welling Planas, of St. Mary's, Ga.; grandson, Stephen Welling Planas of Syracuse, N.Y.; niece, Annie Miro of Ft. Charlotte, Fla.; and cousin, Maureen Allen Holder of Jackson Heights, N.Y. Raised and educated in Cuba, he married the late Lida Mary Magnani of Marietta, Ohio, May 24, 1941, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. They resided in San Juan, the Panama Canal Zone and Havanna, Cuba, before returning to Puerto Rico in 1951 where they lived until 1981. They moved to Bay Shore, Long Island, N.Y., until retirement in 1987, moving subsequently to Wilmington, N.C., and later to Richmond. Mr. Planas was a Rotarian for 25 years, serving as President of San Juan Rotary Club, 1964-1965 and Chairman of the Executive Committee Caribbean-Gulf of Mexico International Conference, November, 1966. He worked for RKO Pictures in Panama and Puerto Rico, 1940-1948, and Paramount Pictures as Caribbean Area Manager until 1968. He served as Administrative Manager at the San Juan office of Deloitte, Haskins and Sells until 1981 and as United Artists Communications Controller, New York, 1981 to 1982. He provided accounting and auditing services to various New York accounting firms until retirement in 1987. Mr. Planas was a member of Keneseth Beth Israel Congregation, Richmond, Va. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 12 noon in the Mound Hill Cemetery Gallipolis, Ohio. Arrangements by the Bliley Funeral Homes.
