Lucy Tharin Wood

WOOD, Lucy Tharin, died peacefully on August 27, 2008 at her home in Richmond. She was 95 years old. The memorial service was held at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church on Friday, August 29, at 11 a.m. Born in 1913, Lucy was the third child of Eleanor Reed and Fletcher Elkin Hinnant. She attended the University of South Carolina, where she ran track and played basketball. Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by both husbands; and her brothers, Ned and Reed Hinnant. She is survived by a sister, Eleanor Fishburne of Charlotte; her son, Theodore S. Tharin and his wife, Nancy, of Richmond; a daughter, Jane Tharin Edens and her longtime companion, Charles T. Morriss, of Richmond; four grandchildren and their spouses, 10 great-grandchildren, and two nieces and their families. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, 10627 Patterson Ave., Richmond, Va. 23226, or Bon Secours Hospice of Richmond, 5801 Bremo Rd., Richmond, Va. 23226, are requested.
