Vivian Butler Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Sep. 3, 2008.
BUTLER, Vivian Hord, 90, of Highland Springs, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 1, 2008, at her residence. She was preceded in death by her parents, Norwood and Clara B. Hord; her husband of 44 years, Joseph Butler; and sister, Dorothy Hord. She is survived by a daughter, Jo Carol Havens and her husband, Dodge, of Varina, Va.; and her two grandchildren, Ben and Katie; the beloved Butler family of North Carolina, and her extended church family. Vivian was formerly a secretary at Southern Biscuit Company and Blue Cross, and taught piano for many years. She was a lifelong member of New Bridge Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for over 70 years, and because of her deep belief and commitment to her Lord, a Ladies Mission Group was named in her honor at the church. Her family will receive friends Wednesday, September 3, 2008, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 4, 2008, 11 a.m., at New Bridge Baptist Church, 5701 Elko Road, Sandston, Va. 23150. Interment private. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Butler's memory may be made to the Bob Chambers Music Suite Building Fund at New Bridge Baptist Church, or the Christian Childrens Fund, 2821 Emerywood Pkwy., Suite 100, Richmond, Va. 23294, or visit www.christianchildrensfund.org.

Mrs. Butler was instrumental in helping me form my Christian foundations. She was my Sunday School teacher as a teenager, family friend for many years and watched my daughters grow up. She never met a stranger and shared her Christian love everywhere she went. She will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Jo Carol, and your family.
