WELLS, Betty Lou Wood, 78, of Bumpass, died Monday, September 1, 2008, at her residence. She was born April 20, 1930, in Martinsville, and was a daughter of the late Walter Bennett Wood and Emma Dillon Hilton Wood. She was a member of the Elk Creek Baptist Church in Mineral. Mrs. Wells is survived by her husband, George Collier Wells Jr. of Bumpass; two daughters, Betty Lane Cope and husband, Rick, of Kents Store, Emily Mazure and husband, Peter, of Chesterfield; two sons, Walter Michael Wells and wife, Connie, of Pembroke, Charles David Wells of Cudjoe Key, Fla.; one sister, Patricia Kirkland and husband, Greg, of Boynton Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Morgan, Connor, Steven, Alex, Sara, Lindsey, Chris; and one great-grandson, J.D. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, September 6, 2008, at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Gordonsville, officiated by Rev. Gerald Chancellor and assistant, his wife, Fran. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, one hour prior to the memorial service at the funeral home. Interment is private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 2200 Old Ivy Rd., Suite 2, Charlottesville, Va. 22903.
