On the anniversary of his death, I know that time has healed, but today the wounds have felt very fresh. I began the day thanking for God for the time I was allowed to get to know him. He was an awesome father and grandfather. He always had a kind word for me and noticed the small things. I truly miss him and hate to see how losing him hurts my husnad and kids so deeply.

Hey Family, While watching the game Sunday against Dallas, the only thing I could think of was how much fun Briggs was having sitting there with God asking him for a special blessing. That let's you know how special Brigg's is. God listened to him. Love you all, Wayne and Jackie.

Oh my dear Al, I have always admired You and your family. Maxine, I hurt with you. I have'nt seen you guys in years, but you have been on my mind. I pray that God will take over where Al left off, taking care of his great family. May God forever keep you and comfort you in your time of need. Only time could fill the void in your heart.

Maxine and family, I was shocked and saddened to hear about the loss of your husband, father and grandfather. Although I never met him I will never forget the smile on your face and the joy in our heart as you spoke of him and your family when I worked for DOC. Know that your husband will always be with you. You shared a love story that some have never been blessed to experience. God knows and he cares. He will never leave nor forsake you. Hold on to his unchanging hand and he will lead your pathway during this difficult time. If you need anything feel free to contact me.

It will be the little things that you will remember the quiet moments, the smiles, the laughter.
And although it may seem hard right now, it will be the memory

Maxine,
I was truly saddened to hear of the sudden loss of your husband. I remember the conversations you and I had while I was employed with DOC and we talked about the trips you and your husband took and how much you all enjoyed each other. I know you will miss him but remember God provides all our needs and he truly does not give us more than we can bare nor does he make mistakes. One of my favorite phrases is "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning". Remember all of the good times and good years the two of you shared and God will carry you through this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My prayer is that he will be in that first resurrection when Jesus comes to carry his children home and you and he will be reunited in immortality, never to be seperated again.
God bless you and stay strong,
In Christian Love,
Gloria Mitchell (Petersburg, VA)

To Aunt Maxine and Shauna, Sherrod & Sherrell:
We know you all will miss him so cherish all the loving memories. Every piece of (“Fonz”) life and experiences can be used of Christ to touch someone else. He was the kind father, husband, uncle, friend that other need to take notes.
We have seen situations daily that nobody should ever have to go through alone. Nobody should ever have to wait in the hospital while a loved one is in life-or-death surgery. Nobody should ever have to wait for news from a battlefield alone. Nobody should ever have to stand at the edge of an open grave alone. Nobody should ever have to spend the first night alone when his or her spouse has just passed on. “If one part suffers, every part suffers with it” (1 Corinthians 12:26). Romans 12:15 express a similar idea: “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn”. But when someone is having a tough time, it can seem more difficult. But, really, it’s simple.
When you’re going through a crisis, you don’t want advice; you just want somebody to be there – to sit with you, hold your hand, put an arm around your shoulder, or cry with you.
As Paul tells us, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up” (1 Thessalonians 5:11 NIV). Encouraging someone else doesn’t always mean giving a pep talk or words of wisdom. Sometimes the best kind of encouragement is just sitting in silence – waiting and weeping with a friend.
With love !

I want to live right up to the

I was saddened to hear of Alphonso's sudden departure from this life. It seems like only yesterday we were boys running around on 5th Street and later on to Jr. High and high school. Al played a pretty good clarinet (1st seat) and even developed a basketball game, after time, in spite of his leg. I last saw him as a young man but I am proud to hear that he became the great man, husband, and father that I knew he would. I am most proud to have called him my friend. May his spirit be raised up on eagle's wings and may the peace that surpasses all understanding be unto all of the family!

The Briggs Family:
May God be with you in your time of sorrow, but know that Mr. Briggs is in good hands. For young men like myself, he didn't talk about what it means to be a good man, but he walked the walk. It didn't take you long to understand the school that he came from. A strong family man, and a true role model. My heart goes out to you all!

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, ""I welcome you.""
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......""My day was not in vain.""
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To the Briggs family: It is with deepest sorrow that I heard about you husband, father, brother, and uncle, Alphonso. By visiting and practicully growing up on Noble Ave. with my cousins whom lived directly across the street and knowing Tony (TB), I've been accepted as part of Briggs/Baskerville family for many years. As recently as this summer I would see Alphonso attending his grandson's soccer game every Saturday morning. We were so estonished to see each other at such a early time in the morning, but remained faithful to our family. That is how I will always remember Phonso, as being faithful to his loved ones and a smile that would light up the room. Maxine, may God embrace you and your family at this time and know that Phonso's spirit has touched many people and was well loved.

Maxine,
There are no word to express our heartfelt sympathy to you and your family at this time. I believe this poem that was in our Sunday's bulletin says it the best.
He is Always There
We can't foresee the turning of the tide
When problems beset us and tears are cried.
Sometimes life deals from the bottom of the deck
Filling us with worry and leving us a wreck.
The enemy seeks to devour and destroy, Using deception to eliminate our joy.
While walking through the valley, our heads hung low, The mountain top seems so high, our footteps slow.
How many times have we traveled this road, To battle the frustrations of troubles betowed?
Yet when we come to our darkest hour, God demonstrates His infinite power.
It doesn't matter how bad things might seem, He always comes through, our faith to redeem.
God will not fail us in our times of pain.
He'll never forsake us, by our side He'll remain.
So when we find ourselves at a total loss
Or when the valley seems too wide to cross,
Just remember you're in His Love and Care,
Look over your shoulder, He's Always There!!!!!!

We love you!

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
