Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Oct. 10 to Oct. 12, 2008.
HICKS, Barbara "Bebe", 59, of Mechanicsville, Virginia, joined our Lord in Heaven on Wednesday evening October 8, 2008, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Illness). She has joined her late husband, John Alfred Hicks and her father, Frederick Ivanhoe Cabell. She is survived by her loving husband, psychologist Dr. I. Louis Weinbaum; two daughters, Theresa Lynn Hicks (Brandon LeGars), grandson Kaleb, Victoria Cabell Hicks (Christopher Rowe), grandson Jackson; her mother, Gladys Banton Cabell-Turner and companion, Bill Schneider; her brother, Frederick Nash Cabell (MaryJo Jameson); her stepson, Daniel P. Weinbaum; and many admired friends and colleagues. Barbara worked for Central Fidelity Bank for 25 years and later Wachovia Bank. She was intimately involved with the Episcopal Church of the Creator in Mechanicsville. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association would be appreciated, www.ALSinfo.org. Mumma, we miss you and we love and appreciate you very much. We know you will always be here watching over us all! Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, October 12 at the Episcopal Church of the Creator, 7159 Mechanicsville Turnpike, Mechanicsville, Va. 23111. Interment will be private. It's been 3 years today since you passed mama and I miss you more and more everyday. Jackson is doing to good in Kindergarten, rides the bus and everything. Samuel will be 8 months old tomorrow,he's such a happy baby. He has 2 teeth and is crawling now, he will be walking before we know it. I love you and miss you so much, I can't believe it has been three years since you went to Heaven, it doesn't seem that long. I hope you are happy up there and enjoying time with daddy, give him hugs and kisses from me and tell him I love and miss him so as well. I hope you guys are enjoying watching your grand babies grow and develop into wonderful young children. We miss you, love you mama.

My mama was my bestfriend and the most wonderful person I have ever known. Upon reading all of these entries I see how she touched the lives of others as I already knew. Thank you for the kind words.

I think of you every day mama. We all love and miss you so very much.

I'm so sorry Barbara lost her valiant fight with ALS. She was such a brave soul. She was my sister Martha's best friend for 30 plus years and nothing could be a more fitting epitaph than you were someone's "best friend" I know she will be greatly
missed and you are in my thoughts. She is free to be herself once again.

Barbara was one of my managers at Central National (Fidelity) Bank. From her I learned the importance of ethics, and of being honest and open. I was privileged to have known Barbara and am saddened to hear of her death. She and John are now dancing.

My prayers and thoughts go out to her family.

I knew Barbara through Wachovia, and on behalf of my family , please accept our condolences. My wife reminded me of the time Barbara kept the bank open late to help our son. She was always pleasant, upbeat and gracious.

Dr. Weinbaum and Daniel,

I am so very, very sorry --mortal's words fail at times such as these;

"I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills;
from whence cometh my help?

My help cometh from the Lord,
who hath made Heaven and earth.

....

Behold, He that keepth Isreal
shall neither slumber nor sleep.

....

The Lord shall preserve thy going out, and thy coming in, from this time forth for evermore."

Psalm 121

I could not help but notice that beautiful smiling face smiling out of today's paper. I was so sorry to read that she had the difficult road of ALS to travel. I do not know you but wanted to offer you my sincere sympathy and prayers. God Bless.
She is free of it all in heaven.
