Dear Burns Family,
Ned joins me in thanking you for the honor of being with you and your wonderful family during this time of grief and celebration (as the minister said at her service in Richmond on Monday). Yours is a unique and loving family. I keep expecting the next round of Maxine cartoons on the email that she used to send, along with the phone calls expressing her passion that she held for the current political campaign. Goodbye, my buddy and pal. You taught us how to love--all of us. As Billy Joel sings, "Only the good die young." You will be at all the future picnics with babies, daughters and grandmas. You'll be the flowers on the table and the music in the background and the laughter that will prevail in your honor. Much love to you, James, Elizabeth, Jarrett, Gray, and Mary Caroline; Worth, Katie, and Jake; and David and all the extended family.

Dear James and family-
I had the distinct and enjoyable pleasure to work with your wife during her time as a teacher at Short Pump Middle School, and I have fond memories of her great "Carolina "accent and easy-going loving demeanor. I also remember the time and preparation both of you made to host our holiday gathering in your home. Hold fast to your times with her; she was a great person that made a positive impact in this school community, and on me.
Take Care,
Sam Turner

Dear Burns Family,
I had the pleasure of knowing your Anne when she was a teacher at SPMS. She was always a bright spot when she entered a room and a very gracious lady. When I think of her I remember how kind she was to everyone how she cared about the children. She was a wonderful teacher and a lovely person.
Take care and let your memories keep you strong during this most difficult time. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

To all of Anne's family: I just heard about the tradedy of Anne's death late this afternoon. I can't tell you how much of an impact it has had on me. I first met Anne when she was running the fabric store on Buford Road in Bon Air, and was immediately impressed with her warmth and good humor. In the years since then, we seem to run into one another when shopping, and Anne was either with Worth and Katie or with Elizabeth and one of her babies. She was so outgoing, so interested in what was going on in my life, and always looked so happy to have that time with her kids. I know you will all miss her terribly. Please know that all of you are in my prayers during this very difficult time.

Dear James, Elizabeth, Worth and David: Sally and I were stunned by this terrible news. You have all been continuously in our thoughts and prayers since then. I will never forget the summer of '71, when it seemed like all of the Burns and Page boys were getting married at the same time. Anne has left a wonderful legacy. We don't get to understand, on this side of the River Jordan, why these things happen -- but our faith tells us that God is aware when even a sparrow falls, so I am convinced that Annis in His care and keeping and that we all will see her again. Just know that you will remain in our love and concern. (Cousin) Bob and Sally Page. Raleigh, N. C.

How fornunate I was the day your mom walked into my office to register Elizabeth at Robious. As the years passed, Worth and David entered my life. It was always so obvious what a loving mom she was. I have never known any woman more lovely, more kind, more graceful, nor more sincere than Anne Burns. When I think of her, I always think of a character from a Pat Conroy novel or someone from any Southern story about a woman who is strong and wise.
I think she would tell us today, "Fresh flowers, honey. If you add fresh flowers, the whole room will be happy!"
I hope you are surrounded by fresh flowers today, Anne. And to James and to Anne's children, may time and fond memories help you through this tragic time.
I loved Anne Burns and am a better person for knowing her.
