Nicholas C. Black Jr.

BLACK, Nicholas C. Jr., 90, a former Heritage Oaks resident, passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond, Va. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen Bemis Black; a daughter, Helen B. Jureidini and her husband, Paul Jureidini, of Mechanicsville; a son, Nicholas C. Black III of Sullivans Island, S.C.; a sister, Eleanor Hunter of Orangeburg, S.C.; a niece and two nephews in South Carolina; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was the son of the late Nicholas C. Black Sr. and Ella D. Black of Bamberg, S.C. He was a graduate of Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C.; member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity; veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, serving as Lieutenant-Captain in Communications from 1942-1945 with the Blood and Fire Division, 254th Infantry, 63rd Infantry Division; a bronze star recipient, joining Patton's 3rd Army until the war ended. Nick retired from Liberty Mutual Insurance Company after 43 years of employment, in Chicago, as Midwest Division Claims Service Manager having worked in 14 offices and overseas in Asmara, Eritrea.
