COUNCIL, Sylvia Jean, 55, of 5506 Ironhorse Road, Richmond, went home to be with the Lord on November 6, 2008. She was a native of Nansemond County, Suffolk. She was a 1972-graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, Suffolk, and attended Virginia University of Lynchburg. She was formerly employed by D&V International Transport. She was a former member of Balm of Gilead Baptist Church of Suffolk, and was currently a member of New Deliverance Evangelistic Church where she was a member of the Guardian Angels Ministry and Women's Ministry. She was a devout section leader and member of the Women's Choir, Mass Choir, and B.A.S.I.C. Choir. Ms. Council was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Steverson Skeeter, and her son, Maurice Council. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Charles Council; her son, Jerron Council (Regina) of Richmond; her father, Frank Skeeter of Suffolk; three sisters, Linda Harris (Russell) and Gloria Dotson (Wayne) of Richmond and Velma Bryant (Anthony) of Suffolk; two brothers-in-law, Phillip Council and Ronald Council; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Orpeza, Ella Lynch, and Marion Sykes; goddaughter, Jermile "Millie" Batten; godsister, Elaine Freeman; aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews, cousins; a host of friends and caregivers, Dee Dee Batten, Sharon Morris, Linda Harris, Gloria Dotson, and Velma Bryant. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12 noon Thursday, November 13, 2008 at New Deliverance Evangelistic Church, 1701 Turner Road, Richmond, officiated by Bishop G.O. Glenn, D. Min. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery, Suffolk. A Christian Wake service will be held from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, at Crocker Funeral Home, 900 E. Washington Street, Suffolk. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Thursday. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.

Charles and Jerron, I was very sad to hear about the death of Jean, I had only wished that I knew about her recent illness, but as you both know she was a prayer warrior and she truly loved the Lord....I am greatful for the time I spent with her about 2.5 to 3yrs ago when I was able to pick her up while visiting in NYC...My prayers are with you both. TO THE COUNCIL FAMILY, I DID NOT PERSONALLY KNOW YOUR WIFE, MOTHER, SISTER (ETC), BUT I COULD TELL THAT SHE WAS A SPECIAL PERSON AND WELL LOVED. I WATCHED EACH DAY AND NIGHT AS YOU VISTED HER IN THE NEUROSCIENCE ICU AT MCVH. FAMILY I SAW A GREAT BOND BEACUSE YOU WERE SO ATTENTIVE. MAY YOU FIND COMFORT IN KNOWING THAT GOD NEEDED ANOTHER SPECIAL FLOWER FOR HIS GARDEN AND MS. COUNCIL WAS THE CHOSEN ONE. CHERRISH THE MEMORIES THAT YOU SHARED FOR WEEPING WILL ENDURE FOR AN EVENING BUT JOY WILL COME IN THE MORNING.
