Frances Haynes Obituary

HAYNES, Frances, of 6040 Chestnut Hill Dr., Glen Allen, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 11. She was born on February 1, 1938 in Stephens, Ga. She was a graduate of Northwestern High School in Detroit, Mich. She began a career in the U.S. Navy shortly thereafter. She was also a veteran of the U.S. Army. She attended community college in Michigan and Florida, which earned her an Associate's Degree. She had multiple careers during her life including homemaker, aeronautics, real estate and postal service, but she was most proud of her service to her country in both the Navy and the Army. She worked as an administrative assistant and a medical corpsman. She retired from the Navy in 1998. She is survived by two children, Tabathia Smith of Glen Allen, Va., and Wesley A. Smith (Sharlay) of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, John Robert Haynes of Atlanta, Ga., and Larry Reid of Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandchildren, 18 nieces and nephews, along with a host of other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the F.E. Dabney Funeral Home, 600 B St., Ashland, Va. Homegoing services will be held Wednesday, November 19, 11 a.m., at the Christ Church of the Episcopal, 5000 Pouncey Tract Rd., Glen Allen, Va. Pastor Paul Johnson officiating. Interment Quantico National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 18, (tonight) at the F.E. Dabney Funeral Home Chapel from 7 to 8 p.m. Online condolences can be made at fedabneyfuneralhome.com.

My deepest sympathy to you and your family. I am John Robert Haynes half sister. I only met your mom once (when dad died), but, but my dad spoke of her often. She was exceptional person and a great friend thru our connection of the US Navy and Waves. I will miss hearing from her and news of the children she is so proud of. My heart feels the pain, but memories of your mom are still with me.
