Nannie Lawson Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Dec. 8, 2008.
LAWSON, Nannie Irene (Jeffries). Born October 4, 1926, died quietly at home on December 6, 2008. She was predeceased by her parents, Benjamin H. and Bertha D. Jeffries; and seven sisters and four brothers. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Frank Houston Lawson Sr.; daughter, Penelope Lawson Mills; son, Frank Houston Lawson Jr.; and their respective spouses, Denny Mills and Pat Lawson; three grandchildren of whom she was so proud, Leslie Mills Kimball and her husband, Peter, Kathryn Young Lawson and Brian Houston Lawson; her joy, great-granddaughter, Lane Evelyn Kimball; many nieces and nephews; and her church family. Nan grew up in Marshall, Va., worked at the Department of The Treasury during World War II, and lived most of her married life in Vienna, Va., where she raised her children, was a small business owner and a member of Vienna Baptist Church. Later, she moved to Ashland, Va., where this kind, caring, giving woman found kindred spirit at First Baptist Church Ashland, especially in the Friendship class. She loved flowers, enjoyed the beauty of her garden and was a member of the Clay Spring Garden Club. Nan was creative and talented; she was an expert seamstress, quilter, crafter and oil painter. Family was at the top of her list closely followed by home, Christmas and chocolate. Among other things we will miss her sweet smile, her sense of humor and her busy hands that lovingly created so many treasures. The family will receive visitors at the Nelsen Funeral Home, Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, Va., 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, December 8. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, at First Baptist Church Ashland. Entombment Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

We were all so sorry to hear of Aunt Nannie's passing! We didn't get word until the evening of the viewing, I'm afraid! Now all of the Jeffries "Sisters" can be together again! I can hear all of them laughing now! Houston, Penny & Frankie, time does heal, but we will always remember!! Take care! Love to All!
