Ms. Gloria and Family,
I am saddened to hear of the loss of your dad, he was a great man. I never met a man who was so proud of his wife, daughter and granddaughter. He touched my life from the first day I came to work at the old Saint Paul’s building. He always treated me with love and respect even when he was scolding me for leaving the lights on in my office or working past time that he intended on staying at the church. He would say," Alright little girl, it's time to go, cut them lights out and come on". The last I saw him, I was hurt to see him on oxygen and in a wheel chair. But when I heard him speak he did not let me down, he was the same outspoken Mr. Gilchrist I was accustomed to. :) It’s hard to believe he is gone and he will be missed. It heals my heart to know that he is no longer suffering and with Ms. Ann again where he belongs. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Warmest Regards,
Michelle A. Bray

Anika & Ms. Gloria, I was very sad to hear of the passing of Mr. Gilchrist. I can remember when we were in Girl Scouts, Mr. Girlchrist was quick to keep us in line. I can still appreciate him being the stern custodian who kept us safe. Thanks for sharing your love one with us. I'll keep you in my prayers and pray God's grace on you and your family.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Gilchrist. I have fond memories of prayer breakfasts with him cooking many years ago. He was also the designated time keeper as the lights will go off when its time to go! He was always very spunky and witty...a wonderful warm reception when I first joined SPBC.

Gloria and Anika, We were sadden to learn of Mr. Gilchrist's passing on Tuesday. It was as a part of me left. I have known Mr. Gilchrist and the entire Gilchrist family ever since the warm embrace I received when I first came to Saint Paul's as the Children and Youth Minister in 1986. Mr. Gilchrist always looked after me as one of his own. I will always remember him always telling me I was working too hard and always wanted to ensure I ate. I will cherish the "Liver and Onions" one of Mr. Gilchrist specialties that he would bring to me each week. Mr. Gilchrist as was Mrs. Gilchrist had a warm spirit and caring heart. I know he loved his church and his family. I remember him and I sitting out on the red brick wall outside of St. Paul's on 26th and Marshall , where he would tell me stories of St. Paul's History. His other love was definetly his family. He was so proud of you Glo and Anika and the God Fearing Women you are. Know the Peyton family will continue to hold you in our prayers. We will miss you Mr. Gilchrist , but we know you are in a better place with no more pain and a sweet reunion with your beloved Ann ! Rest on my friend .

We met Mr and Mrs Gilchrist when we first came to St Pauls in 1989. I cannot imagine never knowing them before then, we bonded like glue. We loved them both more than you could ever imagine and they just adored the boys!
I remember the first time the boys visited with Mr Gilchrist, he always thought because of their size and height they ate a lot which they did, but he sent them home with a grocery bag full of food including a spiral ham and he told Devin the ham was his and beleive me, Devin made sure we knew the ham belonged to him.
That is just the way they were, very loving, careing, and giving. The cookouts were always a joy to attend and I am so greatful they we able to attend our cookouts as well. Their presence meant so much to myself and my husband and the boys.
The memories we have we will hold dear to our hearts and know that we are here for you anytime, day or night.
You will forever remain in our thoughts and prayers.

I want you to know that we are praying for you and your family. I have know your Dad since I joined St. Paul's. He was one of a kind. He had his own way about him. He used to tease me all the time about Ron. Now he can tell Ron face to face what he used to tell me. He was funny. I will never forget him and neither will any of us who have know him a long time.

I have known "Mr. Gilchrist" my entire life and he has always been fun and a joy to work with. We served on the Board of Trustees for St. Paul's Baptist Church for many years. This was after and during his tenure as the Head Custodian. John always put the interest of his church first and we knew that the facility would be immaculate for every service. If anything needed repair, John was there to fix it immediately. This was done without thought of compensation. I can't conclude without mentioning his love of his family. He adored Gloria and was devoted to her happiness. He will be missed. Sunday morning will not be the same without his greeting. Rest assured that God greeted him with "Well done my good and faithful servant".
