NELSON, Patrick Grey, 84, of Ruther Glen, passed away Friday, January 30, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Levi and Josephine Patton Nelson; and his wife, Mildred White Nelson. He is survived by his wife, Ida May Nelson; two daughters, Kathy Berkle and her husband, Paul, and Gail Blue and her husband, Patrick; stepson, William Gregory and his wife, Bitsy; stepdaughter, Diane Goldberg and her husband, Richard; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Irene King, Inez Kilgour and Lottie Doeppe. A bricklayer since the age of 17, he was employed by Mayo & Sharpe, was a partner in Hammond Masonry, and then was in business for himself for 10 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Goochland Baptist Church, Metropolitan Lodge #11 A.F. & A.M, ACCA Temple Shrine Legion of Honor, and the Richmond Scottish Rite Bodies. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, with a Masonic Service at 5 p.m. at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St., where services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, February 2, 2009. Interment in Goochland Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to Shriners Hospital for Children, c/o ACCA Temple Shrine.
