I first heard about Andrew after he was diagnosed. My mother had taught with him at Rolfe. I followed his story over the past few years and was greatly inspired by his bravery and courage. I was so sorry to hear about his passing. You will be missed.

To Coach Stevens' family,
Our thoughts and prayers reach out to you at this time. Coach Stevens discovered a passion for running in our daughter. We are forever grateful for his dedication and love for his students and athletes. During the Relay for Life at Rolfe Middle, Coach Stevens spoke of strength and determination. He demonstrated and shared both with us all. Thank you for sharing a wonderful son and husband.
May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Sarah and Family,
After coming to the viewing yesterday, I realized how strong your family is. I dont think that I could have stood there and helpd console other people, some people you barley knew, while you all lost the most wonderful person that I will ever know. That showed me how strong you guys are. You told me that Coach would be so proud of me that I kept running. I know he is just as proud of you for living on, knowing that he may not be by your side in his pyhsical form, but he would always be with you no matter where you go in life as your guardian angel. Just remember that he is always by your side no matter where you are and is looking down on you from heaven, waiting for you at Heaven's pearly gates.
Stay Strong-- He will always be with you

Mr. Stevens was a great teacher, person, and most importantly, friend. He was always there when I needed someone to talk to and I'm heartbroken to know that he's gone. My prayers go out to all of the Stevens and Junod Families, especially Sarah. Mr. Stevens was one of the most couragous, strong, best people I knew. He was the most awesome English teacher I've ever had! I'll always remember him calling me Fievel (after the movie character) in the mornings before school started.(: I miss him so much, but I know that he's in a better place.

Mr.Stevens was the best english teacher ever. He was strict when he needed to be but more than anything he was a great friend. He was always there when his students had a problem and always worked things out with us. He was young and understood us better. We were there when the cancer first hit him back in 05-06. When he had to leave us in the middle of the year it broke our hearts. Throughout the years many of his past students kept in touch and I'd like to say I was one of them. Rest in peace Mr.Stevens I love you with all my heart and I will miss you dearly. I would like do give my deepest of sorrows and condolences. But we still must celebrate the wonderful life he led by helping all his students. We love you; goodbye.

I am so sad to hear this news. I was coached by Mr. Stevens in 1998 at Brookland Middle. To this day he remains an inspiration to myself and to hundreds of other former students long graduated. He impacted a generation of young people to better themselves and their community. All the best to the Stevens family.

You are such a positive person and I know you were a loving and devoted wife. Andrew was so blessed to have you in his life and I know you were a blessing to him. It takes a strong couple to deal with life's circumstances and you both showed your love to eachother through it all. Dear Randy, Monica, Laura, Daniel and Sarah,
It is difficult for us to find the words that adequately express our deep sorrow over Andy's death. He fought his battle with cancer so courageously, and all of you gave him your loving support and care. Now Andy is in Heaven with our God and Savior, enjoying a new eternal life that will be full of peace and tranquility and free from problems, sorrow, suffering and pain. Randy, since becoming our pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Martinsville, you have given us and our congregation comfort and support many times and in many ways. With all of you in the family, we grieve over the loss of Andy and offer our deepest sympathy.

Coach Stevens,
If feels like it was yesterday that I was running track for you at Brookland. That was so many years ago and I have not seen you since I left but it still hurts just the same. You were the best coach and you were a good person and you cared about all of us like we were your own. I have great memories from the time that you were in my life. You are now in a better place and now you are watching down on all the kids that have passed through your life. You were a great person and you will truly be missed.
love always,

Andy's father, Randy Stevens, is our minister at First Presbyterian Church, Martinsville. We grieve deeply for one who has "buried" so many through the years in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. And now he must bear the death of his own son, Andy, who at 30 seemed too young to die. But we all know that Andy now rests in the arms of our Savior, who has granted us so many precious memories of Andy. May the peace and love of God abide with the family of Andy through the days ahead.

Coach,
I cant believe you are gone. It seems just yesterday that I was out on the track in 6th grade struggling to finish a mile in 8 minutes. Now, I'm in 10th grade and running a 5:53 mile, 2mile, and all sorts of other events. Thank you so much for letting me run. I know that in 6th grade, I wasnt the best runner at all. Thank you for putting me on the team because if you hadnt seen something in me that said that I could become a good runner, then I would never be in the place where I am now. I wouldnt have tried out again. I have been thinking about you for a while now and I was going to ask Ms. Scott to ask you if you wanted to come to one of my track meets. Ms. Scott and my mom told me that you died yesterday after I ran the mile. I finally broke 6 minutes and I was so excited. Varina's 4x8 team I was on broke the school record with an 11:26. I would be where I am now if it hadn't been for you. I am going to miss you so much, I still cant believe you are gone. To his family-- Mr. Stevens was an amazing person that no one should ever forget. I know there is going to be some hard time coming up, but never forget that hope can get you through anything.
Coach-- I again thank you for everything you have done for me. I am runnign the Monument Avenue 10k in march, and I have decided that I am running it in honnor of you and what you have done for me. Thank you so much, and just know that you will never be forgoten.
