Ruth C. Thorpe

THORPE, Ruth C., departed this life February 2, 2009 in Newport News, Va. She was born August 21, 1923 in Charlotte Court House, Va., to Charles H. and Laura Farmer Cook; and was the widow of Charles H. Thorpe Sr. She was also predeceased by her brothers, John and Charles Robert Cook. She was retired from C&P Telephone in Richmond, Va., after 38 years of faithful service. Ruth is survived by her three children, William H. Coates Jr. of Powhatan, Va., Katherine Coates Carneal of Newport News, Va., Charles David Coates and his wife, Sally, of Winchester, Va.; and sister, Ann Bremner of Goochland, Va. She also leaves four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, as well as many living relatives. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 5, 2 p.m., at Bliley's-Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park.
