Faye Williams Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Feb. 3 to Feb. 4, 2009.
WILLIAMS, Faye Smith. The heavens will be a bit brighter tonight as another angel has entered into our Father's keeping. Faye Williams, 72, passed away February 1, 2009 at MCV/VCU. She was predeceased by her husband, best friend and love of her life, Charles Williams, Jr. She was also predeceased by her father, George Edward Smith. Faye was born and raised in Brunswick County (Rawlings), Va., and attended Alberta High School. Faye resided in Covenant Woods Continuing Care in Mechanicsville, Va., and was a member of Corinth United Methodist Church, where she served in many capacities, including lay minister for over 40 years. She was extremely devoted to her church and ministering to other people on a continual basis. Even in death, Faye continues to be an inspiration to so many and her loving spirit will live on in their hearts forever. Her God and her church were her first love, and she lived a life that so deeply proved her devotion. Her mother, Mattie Jenkins, is left to cherish her memories, and the love she leaves behind. She is also survived by one sister, Audrey Crittenden; a brother, George Smith Jr. and his wife, Wanda; three nieces, Wanda Robinson and her husband, Paul, Sarah Philip and her husband, Frank, and Melissa Wherrell and her husband, Nevin; two nephews, Ed Crittenden and his wife, Janie, and Austin Smith. Faye is also survived by three great-nieces, Jennifer Wright and her husband, Todd, and Madison and Emily Philip; five great-nephews, William Strattner, Adam Crittenden, Aaron Crittenden, Logan Wherrell and Noah Philip. She is also survived by a great-great-nephew, Travis Wright; and a great-great-niece, Marin Wright. Every person who knew Faye boasts a more spiritual-filled life because she radiated such an essence of faith, and the love of her Heavenly Father. She will be missed here on earth beyond description, but being lifted out of her pain and suffering will allow her even more teaching possibilities with the guidance of our Heavenly Father. We know Charles is surely with her there as well. God bless you, Faye. Our love for you will never waiver. The family will receive friends Wednesday, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Corinth United Methodist Church, with interment to follow in Washington Memorial Park. Donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or the American Cancer Society.

Faye will be one of those individuals I will always remember. She left such an impression with her kind and gentle nature, was always so positive and caring of others, had an incredible artist ability, yet was always so humble. I will truly miss her smiling face and daily chats. May God be with her family to comfort them at this sad time.

Faye Williams displayed dignity and humility while becoming an effective servant to her family and faith community, despite her physical limitations. She encouraged many who were discouraged and gave hope to those in despair. Her love was expressed in gentle self-effacing ways, a true servant.
