Andrew Walter "Roscoe" Williams

Andrew Williams Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Feb. 5 to Feb. 6, 2009.
WILLIAMS, Andrew "Roscoe" Walter, 38, of Chesterfield, died February 2, 2009. Andy was preceded in death by his grandma, Ruth K. Ragland; grandpa, Samuel P. Ragland; and uncle, Samuel R. Ragland. Roscoe is survived by his wife, Lisa; mother and father, Patricia and Wayne Sr; brothers, Wayne Jr. and his wife, Sharon, and Tony and his wife, Suzanne; nieces, Ashley and Bayleigh; and nephew, Michael. He is also survived by his grandparents, Charles and Ray; his aunt, Carolyn; uncle, Keith; and cousins, Emily and Stephen and his wife, Rachael. Roscoe's passions included not only his friends and family, but deer and turkey hunting, playing softball and riding Harleys. As a member of the Wachsmann Hunt Club in Sussex County, he was known as "Bladeslinger," where he brought joy and memories to the club for 26 years. He was as equally dedicated and entertaining to the world of softball in Chesterfield County. Playing for many teams over the years, "Roscoe" left his mark. There were few, if any, who did not know who he was wherever he went. Roscoe always had a smile, a hug, a nickname, or a story for those who crossed his path. Words cannot express the extensive network of friends he had. Everyone had a special place not only in their hearts for Roscoe, but he as equally for them. Roscoe's answer to life was a ride on a motorcycle. He has shared many rides, but his riding family remains to be "The Screaming Brothers." Roscoe's memory will live on, live long, and live strong. We will all miss you brother! His remains rest at the Victory Tabernacle Church of God, 11700 Genito Road, where the family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday and where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday. Interment Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Hi Roscoe.
Another year has come and gone. I was looking through a photo album with my son and we came across a picture that you were in. Right away he said, "that's uncle Roscoe!, you know he's in heaven with God." I assured him that was indeed the case. We miss you and we thank you for showing us through your example how to live, laugh, and love. So rest in peace old friend and we'll walk in time with you again.

I came here for another memorial, and I stumbled upon Roscoe's and had to read about a man with 200 plus entries.

I'm in tears now, with sadness that I never got to know this clearly beautiful, wonderful human being, but also inspired to be a better man myself.

Wow, he truly sounds like an angel among mortals. Love to you all.

A year has passed....do you see it as 1 year, 12 months, 52 weeks or 365 days? it's all of the above ...it’s a daily emotional struggle that we still endure. You are in our hearts and in our thoughts daily, whether we hear you in a song or see you in a picture or just feel you in our hearts from a memory.
We MISS you as much today as we did a year ago...but LOVE you just as much as when you were here with us!
Love your Lil’ Sister

But I can not wait to hear the nic-name you have given God cause you have one for everybody you meet. You are missed and will never be replaced.

"Ricky", we can't believe you are gone. Sometimes words just aren't enough to take away our grief so we rely on God for help and strength in this time. You were a good man with such a genuine spirit, you always carried your bag of jokes with you wherever you went. When we would see you it was always smiles and laughter. We will keep our memories of you close to our hearts as so many others will to. This family is forever changed because of your passing, but we all know one day we will be together again. We love you Ricky and will deeply miss you.

As much as i think that you knew you were loved, I would dare say that you could have never imagined how much the community truly loved you. Chesterfield lost one of its finest. There will never be anyone to replace you. Every day that goes by gets even harder. The thought of you and your memories brings smiles and laughter, but the fact that you are truly gone brings heartache and tears. You feel only a phone call away until I see your picture and I remember. If I could erase the reality, I would; if I could take your place I would. If there is anything I could do to bring you back I would. I have to believe that you are in a better place, but that doesn't mean I miss you any less. It is selfish for me to wish that you could have stayed with us; you were never ours to keep. What I would give for one more smile, one more hug, one more at bat, one more hunt, one more set at the gym, one more ride on your bike, or just one more conversation. Life as I know it is forever changed. I never expected to reside in a world without you. The world will forever be a different color.

You have brought together a new “Family” of friends, relatives, and acquaintances who have shared common feelings of fondness, affection & devotion for you. Your life was full of honor, pride, respect, love and fun and my hope is that even without you here we will continue your legacy in who we are.

For me, I have a hole in my heart miles deep and the void I feel continues. Daily life is challenging for me still, sometimes even brutal that I cannot call or text you to ask you about your day or tell you about mine. No bear hugs or memories to make…still the days seem to pass on by.

I can hold you in a thought and
I can feel your presence which gives me strength and courage.
The tears I have cried for you could flood the earth
and I know you have wiped each one away.
For you Brother, I promise you this;
I will go on with my life and make you proud; I will always hold you in my heart.
I promise you I will be missing you, everyday till the end of time.
I need to love and miss you, but I also need to live because through me you will live,
you will still laugh and love,
you will still sing and dance,
you will still hug and kiss.
You will forever be in our lives;
you will forever be a brother,
a son,
an uncle
and a friend.
I am going to miss your shining face
I might think of you and wonder why?
I might even cry or smile…
but at the end of the day… I am one day closer to you.

I Miss You & I Love You!!

Our Love & Respect Always,
Angel, Butch & Kody

To the Williams Family,
Sometimes meare words just aren't enough to take away our grief so we rely on God for help and strength in our beliefs. May he uplift you gently, take the sorrow that you bear, then comfort you with healing in the safety of his care. May Gods love comfort you in this difficult time. We will always remember the fun times we had at Andy and Lisa's picnics. He always made us laugh and kept a smile on our faces.

Andy, I still cannot believe you are gone. I remember your encouraging words to me just before you became our angel in heaven. The kids will miss you terribly. You would have been so proud of Ashley talking about you and sharing her memories of you with everyone. She was your Little Niece. Michael continues to wear your hats even though they are too big he does not care because they were Uncle Andy's. We miss you and will love you always.

I knew Andy from the old neighborhood and still live right down the road from his parents. Since hearing of his loss, there hasn't been anyone I've talked to that didn't know Andy personally or knew someone that did. Normally we would say "what a small world" but in this case I'd like to think "what a big heart", that Andy was able to touch so many lives and leave an impact so positive and far stretching. This truly speaks volumes of the way he lived his life. To all who knew Andy, may each tear shed be replaced my a memory shared. We will miss you!

Roscoe, As the days go by it is not getting any easier for us to realize you are gone. We are missing you everyday, every minute, with every breath we take. I know you would not want all this sadness surrounding us, but you would appreciate being on everyone mind. You may be gone but you will never be forgotten. You will live in our minds and our hearts forever! As you and Bayleigh would say "holla, peace out."

My sympathy goes out to the Whole Williams' Family. I will miss him everyday. I started working at WAWA three years ago and Andy became one of my closest male friends my third day on a new job. Everyone was bickering and giving me such a hard time. Andy walked up with his buddy Brian and told a Gentlemen to calm down and I would get things straight. If anyone else had anything to say come on up and see him. He told them, I was new and to give me a chance. He has been my friend every since. I use to bring him my homemade canned pickles and he'd bring me cucumbers, tomatoes and squash to can. Everyone here at WaWa Just loved him. He made us laugh, he made us feel good about ourselves. I am old enough to be his mother, I have a daughter in the army since she was 18, now 35. I never had a son. He was like a son to me. I have watched him pay for other peoples food, or coffee when they were a little short and didn't have enough. You could tell Andy was a hard worker but was there to help when you needed it. I know you'll miss him but look at all the fond memories we have to hold on to for the rest of our lives. My husband Gerald Daniel knew him longer than I. Andy dated his daughter Tiffany for six years. Tiffany would help Andy's grandmother and mother with things around the house. They had lots of dinners and fun together. Andy use to come visit at Geralds' house a lot. The whole family thought alot of him. He was like another person of the family. I hope God Blesses each and everyone. Come see me at WaWa sometime.

Roscoe you were like the uncle I never had. You always made me laugh [: Whenever you would come over I would automtically go outside in the garage to get you a Mountain Dew. We were both addicted. Also I remember the one time that I made beeforoni and Autumn wouldn't share with me. So when I asked you, you were willing. You were always hungry! Haha. I heard about how you would name your friends food. Haha! I laughed extremly hard. I know I would be Mountain Dew. Haha. I already miss your hugs and smiles. I hope you are tearing up the golden roads above. I love you uncle Roscoe [: I'll never forget you <3

Roscoe, words cannot express our loss. In just the short time I got to know you, I realized how good of a man you were. The jokes and stories were always enough to make me smile. Listening to the stories in your eulogy brought a smile to alot of people because everyone had their own funny stories they could have told. You had that way with people. You could always make me laugh at whatever was bothering me. Thank you for always being you. God bless you my friend. He has a good man in his army.

Roscoe thank you for your smile, hugs and most of all your love. You truely cared and were always there. I will selfishly continue to call on you to help me through a hard day. The pleasure was all mine. Take care of you.

As I imagine the set of wings waiting on you, I smile, for this I thank you.

Love and Respect RIP my dear friend.

Mr.& Mrs. Williams, Lisa, Wayne, Tony and Family:

I am very saddened to hear of our loss of Andy. I grew up with Andy from Southside Baptist to High School. I enjoyed seeing Andy at softball tournaments as my husband played with teams that seem to travel in the same circle. Every time I would see Andy he would always start with a smile and hug. We always remembered our days at Southside when we would sneak cookies from his grandma and skip the classes in bible school. I truly know in my heart our seperation with him is temporary. One thing I carry is the memory of him always letting those he loved know that he loved them and that is something we can all carry forward. He is truly a special person and touch many of us. Lisa, I can't imagine the depth of your loss and I pray that the special memories only you shared with Andy will carry you in the hard days forward. With prayers for all of you.

Sco-daddy was my nickname for Roscoe. He was the only person in the world who could give me a hug and pick me up off the ground and make me feel like I weighed next to nothing! He really would do anything for anyone. Just a small example was at mine and Kyle's wedding. He wasn't impressed that he had to dress up to go to the wedding...as we all know, Roscoe was most comfortable in a cut of shirt and shorts! But you know what -- he showed up to that wedding all dressed up and almost looked better than Kyle!! I have only known Sco-daddy for about 5 years -- but I can say that I am 100 times better for knowing him. You are missed and will not be forgotten. We love you.

He only takes the BEST

A heart of gold stopped beating
Two shining eyes at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
A million times we'll need you
A million times we'll cry.
If love could have saved you
You never would have died.
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn't go alone.
For part of us went with you
The day God took you home.

Pat and Wayne,
I know you are proud of the man Andy was and I hope you are able to find some comfort in all of the loving memorials to him. When we were growing up, Andy was so many things to me: he was my playmate, sometimes my tormentor, always my protector, my confidante and my partner in crime:) I will always cherish the fact that he was always my friend and always loved. It was always an extra special visit to Mom and Dad's when I would get to see Andy. It always made me feel special when he would jump the fence so he could come over and give me big hug and kiss. I loved him and he was a wonderful man. He loved you all so much and I cannot even imagine how hard this loss is. I wish I had some magic words to say to make you feel better, but there are no words that could ever make it better. You are always in my prayers and I want you to know that I love you all.
Much love,

To the Williams Family. I knew Andy when he was just a little guy tagging along with his big brothers. I went to MBK with Tony and Wayne and we all spent a lot of time together at the creek and riding bikes. I never saw him again after school, but the things said about him while reading this book has been amazing. What an incredible soul. I'm only sorry I was not able to experience his humor, thoughtfulness and caring nature in his older years. To Mr. & Mrs. Williams, Tony and Wayne, my deepest sympathy goes out to you all. I hope you remember me, it was a long time ago. May God comfort you.

How do you say goodbye to someone who was so larger than life? I met Andy over fifteen years ago through Wayne and Sharon. You just couldn't be around him without laughing. It didn't matter if it had been 6 days or 6 months since we'd seen him, it always felt like yesterday. He was always there for me and my family, no matter what we needed. My husband and I joke that Andy knew our furniture better than we did because he helped us move so many times. He was as real as people come these days-no pretenses, no fakeness, just Andy. There are no words to express the extent of the loss felt by so many with his passing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Williams' family, and to anyone who was blessed to have met him.

My wife knew Roscoe for many years and was very proud to know him. He was a fine man, who deeply touched peoples lives and loved all those around him. I knew him from playing softball against him for years, and enjoyed his camaraderie and friendship. Roscoe loved people and made sure they knew it. May we all be blessed with such a unique gift. We have lost a wonderful child, friend, athlete, biker and outdoorsman, but God and Christ have surely gained a precious and rare angel. God blessed all of us with his presence; may we carry on his spirit and live in harmony in a manner that would please our friend Roscoe.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

GOD HAS BROUGHT A MIGHTY ANGEL & WARRIOR HOME - LIVE IN GLORY IN HEAVEN ANDY TIL WE ALL SEE YOU AGAIN

Mr. & Mrs. Williams & Family: While I only knew your son a short time, he was an excellent student and I believe was the top grade in my classroom. Andy was a student in my plumbing code class at Richmond Tech Center in 2007/2008. My fondest memory was one Monday night at school he said, hey man, I might not be in on Wednesday because I will be hunting. If I bring you in some deer meat, will you count me present. While he did give me some killer deer jerkey, the missed class was a mute point, as his attendance was such that he may have missed 2 nights the entire school year. Students could miss 5 nites a semester and this was acceptable to the school. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Williams family. May God bless you all in this tragic time. I was in shock when a coworker told me that Roscoe had passed away. I only knew him for a couple of years but It was an honor to have gotten the chance to do so. He was the kindest and most gentle man one could have ever had the pleasure of getting to know. I remember meeting him playing soft ball with Chris Gillis and Janet Hix. He always teased me for wearing my tight fitting white with black pin stripped softball shorts. He taught me not to take the game of softball so serious. That the game was more about having fun with your friends then about winning or losing. Rest in Peace Roscoe. Your presence will be greatly misssed at the softball fields. God just got an awesome cleanup hitter and a true team players to play on his team in heaven.

Roscoe will always be in my heart and memories. Any time I made a mistake and got down on myself, he always came up to me and told me to be calm, stay relaxed, and cracked a joke to make me smile. Be well my brother!

I grew up with Roscoe in the old neighborhood and went to school with him. Andy could always bring a smile to my face when things seemed so wrong in life. Everytime I ever saw him I always got the biggest bear-hug anyone could ever give. He had a true gift for making everyone feel special and making people laugh. He will so greatly be missed by everyone! To the family - my deepest sympathies go to you. He was an amazing man and I cannot imagine your grief. Tony and Wayne it has been many years since I have seen either of you, I am so sorry for the loss of your brother. You are both in my prayers as well as your entire family.

With deepest sympathy,
Brenda Proctor

RIP Roscoe..
Wayne, Tony , Pops my thoughts and prayers are with you guys. Theres not many people that I see maybe 10 times a year and consider them a friend, theres no-one that I see that few times a year and feel able to call on them for anything. Your brother is the exception. No matter how long it's been since we talked last, it was always like it was yesterday. Godspeed Roscoe, I have lost a good friend & heaven has gained an awesome soul.
