Suzanne Hoover Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Feb. 15 to Feb. 16, 2009.
HOOVER, Suzanne Adele Young, beloved wife of George F. Hoover, of Midlothian, died peacefully in her home on Thursday, February 12, 2009. Born in Edina, Minnesota, Suzie moved to Buffalo, New York after marrying George in 1953. The Hoovers relocated their business and family to Richmond in 1979. After earning her degree in Art from Damon College, she took great pleasure in painting and collecting interesting artwork. Suzie's spirit of generosity was legend and will be missed by her family and many friends. A steadfast and hardworking volunteer she was at her best when giving to others. Her exceptional organizational skills were put to good use by the non-profit organizations she was passionate about. These included the Albright Knox Art Gallery, the Campfire Girls, the Junior League of Buffalo, the Junior League of Richmond, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Richmond Symphony and Child Abuse Prevention Services of Richmond. She is survived by her children, Jill-Marie Hoover Bowers (Jerry), Torrance D. Hoover (Jill), and Jeffrey M. Hoover (Luz). Also surviving are five brothers and sisters, Jacqueline Connelly (David), Irma Randolph (Fred), Peter Young (Ellen), Judy Aaberg (Tom) and John Young; sister-in-law Audrey Noble (John); seven grandchildren, Ashley, Danforth and Torrance Hoover Jr., Jason and Suzanne Bowers, Paloma and Sancia Hoover; and her wonderful caregiver, Glenice L. Jones. We will all miss her infectious laughter and sound advice. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4600 Cox Rd., Suite 130, Glen Allen, Va. 23060 or the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, 1812 W. Main St., Richmond, Va. 23220. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 21, at Salisbury Presbyterian Church, 13621 W. Salisbury Rd., Midlothian, Va. 23112.

We were shocked to hear of Suzie's death, as we did not know she was ill. We send you and your family our deepest sympathy and love. We are one of your river neighbors who enjoy the wonderful gift of the fireworks you present to us, as I know Suzie did also. I will miss seeing her on the boat when you go by our dock! Much love.
