BASS, Mrs. June Rebecca Foster, 77, left her earthly family to be with her heavenly family on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, after a heroic three year battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lou Hilton Foster (Inez); and an older brother, Mr. L. H. Foster Jr. of Brookneal, Va. She was born July 21, 1931, at her home in Brookneal, Va. She graduated from Brookneal High School and continued her higher education at Richmond Professional Institute, now known as Virginia Commonwealth University. After earning a Certificate of Interior Design in 1952, she graduated with a Bachelor in Fine Arts in 1953. She was elected as senior class president and as May Queen in 1953. June is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Robert Bruce Bass "Bob" of Richmond, Va.; and three daughters, Becky Marshall and husband, Joel, of Burlington, N.C., Barbara Robbins and husband, Alan, of Linville, Va., and Nora Laver and husband, Roberto, of Waltham, Mass.; and one son, Robert Bruce Bass Jr. and his wife, Pamela, of Midlothian, Va. She leaves 11 precious grandchildren, Grant, Benjamin and Anna Marshall, Michael, Brian and Matthew Robbins, Brittany, Autumn and Robbie Bass, Laura and Esteban Laver. She is survived by her older sister, Mrs. Mildred Lewis Kimm of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; and her younger brother, Mr. Watt Robert Foster of Brookneal, Va. She leaves 11 dear nieces and nephews. June's homemaking and church service were the passions of her life. She was a member of Bon Air Baptist Church since 1958, where she served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, Mission Friends Director, GA Director, Acteens Director, WMU Director and sang in the Golden Notes Senior Adult Choir. June also taught English as a Second Language (ESL) through BABC. In addition to serving her local church, she also served through the Richmond Baptist Association in many areas of leadership. The Virginia Baptist Woman's Missionary Union was the recipient of her ministry on their Camp Planning Committee, where she was also the Chairman of the Building and Decoration Committee and established the Bass Scholarship Fund. This fund has enabled over 175 campers to experience missions in a camp setting. She also served as a WMUV Executive Council member and as 2nd Vice-President. She was a member for 25 years of the Virginia Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday (today) at Bon Air Baptist Church, 2531 Buford Rd. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to be made to The Bass Scholarship Fund, Woman's Missionary Union of Va., P.O. Box 8435, Richmond, Va. 23226, or Woman's Missionary Union, Bon Air Baptist Church, 2531 Buford Rd., Richmond, Va. 23235.

To the entire Bass family, I offer my deepest sympathy in your loss of June Rebecca Bass. In my mind, she & Jinks Dixon were the icons of BABC. June was a memorable competitor on the tennis courts & a good sport. She will be missed. Sincerely,

Mr. Bass, Becky, Barbara, Nora, and Bruce,

June was one of the loveliest ladies that I have ever known. Lovely in every sense of the word, inside and out; and a true lady. She loved her God and served Him with all of her heart. She lived her faith selflessly, and gave of herself always, and her presence on this Earth will be missed very, very much. God bless all of you.

Dear Barbara and Family,
I just read about your mom's passing and wanted you to know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. It is so hard to say good-bye to someone you love, but hopefully the fond memories you have will see you through these trying times. May God bless you all!

Dear Barbara and Family
So sorry for the loss, but she is much better now and as you stated in your letter "she's free". She was very brave thru all of it and to me she was a great lady and very inspiring. She will be greatly missed by her family and the church community.

Bob, Charlie and I send you our sympathy over the passing of your lovely wife, June. Our last remembrance of her was on the Regal Cruise several years ago with the 32 of you from BABC. What fond memories we have of June and you. What a great gal she was.
Most sincerely,

Wow, what a great lady June Bass was to all. She shared with me her family and special times at Union Hill and Gwynn's Island.

Her example of how to care and being a good Christian will remain with me until the day I will join her in the heavenly kindom. The idea of a strong work day and then a restful play time after the work was done. Working hard makes the rest time more worthwhile.

I am so sorry for the loss of June from this earth, but her love and spirit will continue in all those she encountered. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the family.

Fondly,

John Johnson and Family

In the short time that I had the priviledge of knowing June, I found her to be a wonderful Godly woman. She was a true Lady in every since of the word. My daughter always enjoyed going to Miss June's {as she called her}. We will miss seeing her.

I knew June for 25 years. I had the priviledge of doing her hair. She was truely the kindest most genuine beautiful person I knew. She was so unselfish and was always there for others. She has certainly been my rock. She was a strong gentle spirit. I will sorely miss her as will all. I love you and God Bless . Jackie Roach
