I wish I had been able to spend more time with Smokey. During the few times I was able to visit with her and Ross, it was clear to me that she was a vital and powerful woman, a positive influence on those around her.

Miss Me, But Let Me Go
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom filled room
Why cry for a soul set free
Miss me a little - but not too long
And not with your head bowed low
Remember the love that we once shared
Miss me - but let me go
For this is a journey that we must all take
And each must go alone
It's all a part of the Master's plan
A step on the road to home
When you are lonely, and sick of heart
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds
Miss me - but let me go

Please know that our hearts and prayers are with you and your family. By reading your words in the website, I know your mother touched your lives and the lives of many others in so many ways. Let those precious memories get you through the difficult times ahead. I am also touched by your mother and I've never met her...what an inspirational person she was and still is...yet she is now in the arms of our Heavenly Father. She is your angel and will always look over her children and loved ones. God Bless you all.

I really cannot believe it. Nicole, Deborah, Otis, and everyone - I am so so so sorry for your loss. Growing up, your mom was invinsible to me. I have so many memories with you Nicole and your mom. You were the friend with the mom that we didn't dare try to lie to ... she always knew what we were up to :-) Man I miss her. My last memory is seeing you guys at Applebee's, and the two of you sat down and talked with me and my mom for a while. So many times I've driven right past Lawnwood Drive and contemplated over and over about taking that turn and stopping by to see your mom, but was too worried that I'd catch her at a bad time. I will always have a million memories to think back on. Thank you for the memorial site. The pictures are a comfort to look at and brought tears to my eyes with a smile on my face. I love you guys. I love you mama smokey.

I had the pleasure of meeting Smokey when Clarence, Gay Ellen, Mary and Grover were in Richmond. Ross and Smokey were gracious hosts of a family get-together. My Mom, husband and I were invited and got to reunite with old friends.
Smokey and I had a wonderful talk. I've lost a husband and my father to cancer and we discussed the mental and emotional endurance it takes to live with this dreaded disease. Smokey's attitude and outlook on life and dying were inspirational. She made a lasting impression on me. I'm sure her loved ones will miss her terribly.
God bless you.

We send our love and prayers to surround you as you grieve the loss of someone so special. We never had a chance to meet your mom, Deborah, but know what a special lady she was. She is proud of you both. Your gift of this memorial website is priceless. Thanks for giving us a glimpse of your mom. We love you. (Michael's Aunt and Uncle)
