WILSON, Gertrude Manning, passed away on August 17, 2009. She was born Gertrude A. Sears on August 25, 1917, in North Carolina, to John Mordecai Sears and Ellen West Sears. In 1933, she graduated from Boydton High School and subsequently entered State Teachers College (now Longwood University), graduating in 1937. After marrying Charles Staples Wilson in 1947, she lived and taught history and English in Farmville, primarily at Prince Edward Academy, until her retirement in 1982 concluded a career of over 40 years of teaching. She was preceded in death by her husband, four sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her son, Dr. Charles S. Wilson Jr., his wife, Pam; and her grandson, Robert M. Wilson. Gertrude enjoyed a long happy life, which included a love of family, travel and the gift of being a skilled conversationalist and listener. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Puckett Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at Farmville United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 19. Memorial contributions may be made to Farmville United Methodist Church or Randolph-Macon College, Ashland, Va.

Charlie S. Wilson, Jr. and Family,

Our sincere condolences on the loss of your Mother, my Aunt Gertrude. We were unable to attend the funeral as we were out of the country. We returned today to this sad news.

Our prayers are with you all at this
sorrowful time.

So sorry for your loss. My grandmother,Helen Sears McKee,grieved the loss of her baby sister for many years since she was not allowed to raise Gertrude as her own. Of course, it was not her decision to be made. To me Aunt Gertrude was Mama's little baby sister until I actually met her at Uncle Charlie's funeral. What a gracious lovely lady. I'm sure we shared many interest..as a fellow teacher who recently retired..we could have traded stories. My prayers are for your peace and comfort.
