Beverley Carter Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Sep. 10, 2009.
CARTER, Beverley Waddill, 65, of Richmond, passed away September 7, 2009. He was born on August 28, 1944 in Richmond to parents, Margaret Waddill and Beverley Hardman Carter. He is survived by his best friend and housemate, Linwood "Lin" Turner, in addition to a large number of friends and acquaintances who know that their world will be a bit duller without him. A Fan resident for 40 years, with many life accomplishments, he was an employee with the Richmond Symphony in a variety of capacities including the voice of the Richmond Symphony, functioning as a narrator and presenter during concert performances. He was also an on-air presenter on Richmond's Classical Music Station in the 1960s and 1970s. Both his knowledge and love for classical music was endless, with a special fondness for the music of Tchaikovsky. He also worked as a sound and recording engineer and his love of media technology resulted in his desire to always acquire the latest "gadgets." He was also a previous employee of Richmond Circuit Courts. Beverley was a witty, engaging and urbane person, who entranced most of the people who were fortunate enough to make his acquaintance. Notice of a memorial service at a later date.

You will be missed my friend. Heaven's Angels are now on their toes and the harps are singing.

Bev was a rare treasure and, often, a bright light in a dim surrounding. His quick whit and love of all things "Artsy" made him a welcome guest amongst any circle. We will truly miss him; and though we will always cherish and treasure the times we had, we lament the wonderful stories left untold. Our condolences to Lin, and everyone else who shares in this tragedy. The world is a dimmer place with this loss.

Bev was a rare and treasured friend. We bounced off each other as close friends do and our senses of humor meshed like the best comedy-team schtick. Half my vocabulary is peppered with bon mots stolen from him. Although separated by long distance and long time, I never felt the bond dissipate.
