Betty Kell Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Sep. 11, 2009.
KELL, Betty Huddleston, 88, of Richmond, and recently of Edisto Island, S.C., passed away on September 7, 2009. Born in Keystone, W.Va., Betty was the widow of Dr. Anthony "Bud" Kell, DDS and helped him establish a successful dental practice in Richmond that lasted for over 50 years. Betty served as tournament chairman of the Richmond Women's Golf Association amateur championship for 40 years. On her retirement from that position, the association honored her by naming their championship medal "The Betty Kell Medal." She also volunteered at the Shepherd's Center, driving over 4,000 miles in one year to get seniors to doctor's visits and other appointments. She is survived by her son, Michael W. Kelland, his wife, Carol, and daughters, Kathryn and Elizabeth of Juneau, Alaska; and her son, Patrick A. Kell and his wife, Ellen Still, of Charleston, S.C. Also surviving her are 12 nieces and nephews. Friends and family wishing to remember her are asked to consider a contribution to the Shepherd's Center of Richmond or to the Richmond SPCA. Memorial services will be announced at a later time.
