THOMPSON, Dorothy Pauline, 75, of 300 South Wayne Ave., passed away Friday, September 18, 2009 at Augusta Health. Born December 31, 1933 in Linville, she was the daughter of the late James Roy and Minnie Belle Mongold Hartman. She worked as a cook for eight years at Oak Grove Manor Nursing Home. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward C. Thompson; sister, Elsie Fitzgerald; brother, Ralph W. Hartman. Survivors include her sons, Carl Shifflett of Richmond and Roy Shifflett of Verona; daughters, Shirley Bowles of Richmond and Doris Harris of Hanover; brothers, Alfred Hartman of Waynesboro and Paul Hartman of Staunton; sisters, Stella Allison of Waynesboro, Edna Marshall and Wanda Gregory of Staunton and Shirley Samuels of Fredericksburg; sister-in-law, Anne Hartman of Staunton; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Hermitage Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with Rev. Dr. Wray Sherman officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service and other times at the home of Alfred Hartman, 17 Swartz Lane, Waynesboro, Va. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hermitage Presbyterian Church Organ Fund, 46 Hildebrand Church Rd., Waynesboro, Va. 22980-6210. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes and Crematory. Relatives and friends may share condolences and memories with the family at www.reynoldshamrickfuneralhomes.com
