Grace BROSKIE Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Sep. 30, 2009.
BROSKIE, Grace Trimmer, was born April 7, 1922, and deceased September 27, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Eckener Broskie; and by eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Nancy Elaine Broskie and husband, Bill, in Oregon. Grace is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends from Virginia and Harrisburg, North Carolina. In recent years she especially appreciated her neighbors, Georgia and Herb Bruch, and her sister-in-law, Carol Trimmer. Grace is in the national Softball Hall of Fame in Virginia, and won numerous Iris awards in Charlotte. She worked at Dupont and the Federal Reserve Bank before being a housewife and the Harrisburg neighborhood stay-at-home mom who took care of sick neighborhood children while taking care of her five acres of land, gardens and pond. She was an expert marksman and fisherwoman. She had visitors practically every day for 40 years to try her new recipes before succumbing to lung cancer. The family will receive friends at Faulkner Family Funeral Home & Crematory, Burgess, Va., on Thursday, October 1, 2009, from 2 to 3 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Roseland Cemetery, Reedville, Va., at 3:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Virginia, P.O. Box 2098, Tappahannock, Va. 22560. Online remembrances may be made at faulknerfamilyfuneralhome.com.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

Grace was my across-the-street neighbor in Highland Springs and, despite the age difference, we ran around together. She took me everywhere and was like a "big sister" to me. Grace taught me to drive (she was a great driver--a little heavy on the foot) and to play a better game of softball. We had great times at the river too. Her sharp wit, loving kindness, and willingness to help anyone in need will be sorely missed.

And let me say a few words for Mother (Dot Harris). Grace was one of her dearest friends. They always laughed about the great times they had together, especially at the river and on their trip to New York City. I dread telling her today of Grace's passing.

Elaine, Carol Ann, Marie, Dickie, and all of her relatives please accept Mother's and my deepest and most heartfelt sympathy.

Love, Jan
