Marguerite SCIUK Obituary

Published by Bliley's Funeral Home Central Chapel from Oct. 2 to Oct. 4, 2009.
SCIUK, Marguerite, age 55, of Manakin-Sabot, Va., lost her six-year battle with brain cancer. She passed away peacefully at home September 29, 2009. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Kevin Sciuk; her parents, Carl and Marguerite Frauenpreis of Boonton Twp., N.J.; two brothers, Carl Frauenpreis (Isabel) of Wallingford, Conn. and Scott Frauenpreis (Robin) of Newton, N.J. After being diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2003, Marguerite founded Brain Tumor Resource and Information Network (B.R.A.I.N.), a Richmond-based all-volunteer nonprofit organization, with the mission of providing brain tumor information to newly diagnosed patients, increasing their quality of life, increasing public awareness and raising funds for research into a cure for this devastating disease. The family would like to express their great appreciation to Dr. David Reardon and the entire medical team at the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University for their hope and loving, knowledgeable care over the past six years. Also to Trang Dieu and her entire family for the love they have shown and the sacrifices they have made to care for Marguerite during the end of her journey. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Bliley's-Central, 3801 Augusta Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to B.R.A.I.N., P.O. Box 4316, Glen Allen, Va. 23058, to help us continue the mission to which Marguerite dedicated the last six years of her life.

Kevin, Please know that my thoughts are prayers are with you. Marguerite was a special lady. Just like she did to so many people here, on earth, I know she will be reaching out to all of us from above. While her warm smile and laughter will be missed, her spirit will always be close by.

I met Marguerite a few years back at Relay for Life. My mom was diagnosed almost three years ago with cancer and Marguerite was a real inspiration to our family. I am so sad to hear of her passing and hope that her foundation continues to educate and give hope to all. We looked up to her very much. Deepest sympathy and many prayers to the family.
