WARD, Charles Henry, 65, passed away September 30, 2009 at his home. A lifelong resident of Southampton County and a retired farmer, Charles was a son of the late Beecher Henry Ward Jr. and Mildred Scott Ward. He was a member of the Sedley Hunt Club, Sons of the Confederacy and was a 1962 graduate of Southampton High School where he was an Honorable Mention Basketball All-American. He was a member of Courtland Baptist Church and attended True Word Christian Church. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 32 years, Shelby Jenkins Ward; his daughter, Tina W. Taylor and her husband, Christopher, of Courtland; two sisters, Judith W. Wells of Hopewell and Brenda W. Bradshaw of Greenville, S.C.; a brother, James H. Ward of Courtland; a grandson, Christopher Taylor, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved son, C.H. Ward Jr. A graveside funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Riverside Cemetery with Tres Bradshaw and Rev. Chuck Worth officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, the Courtland Volunteer Rescue or the Courtland Volunteer Fire Department. wrightfuneralhome.org.
