It has been 12 years since we graduated and 14 years since we roomed together. I think of you frequently and remember such things as popping popcorn after TAPS in the baggage room which was next to our room on the top floor of Old North. (We had commandeered the key to the baggage room and had duplicated it. Frank Lennon was frequently there as well composing a paper that was due the next day.) Your service was exemplary both as an Army officer and as a retired citizen of this great nation. I look forward to the day we meet again.

Sarah, I know no words can adequately express your loss. Chuck was a most wonderful person. Our times together in Hawaii and afterward are highlights in my life. I grieve his loss and pray for your comfort.

Dear Sarah,
I will always remember and cherish the tranquil garden that you and Charles sculptured out of the landscape alongside the Marina Restaurant, in Pearl Harbor. The two of you marked off a path and then planted shrubs and colorful flowers. Your final touch was adding a bench so one could sit and reflect on all the beauty surrounding you in that beautiful garden. At the end of the day as colors was sounding and the flag was being lowered, I would retreat to that bench and watch as the shadows fell upon Ford Island.
Thank you both for that wonderful garden which so many of us shared.

Sarah - I am so sorry to here about the Colonel with (4) four Bronze Star Medals. I will always cherish our wonderful friendship. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you at this difficult time. I am just shell-shocked.

He had the charm that put everyone at ease. More importantly though it was quickly apparent that he had a sincere interest in the people he came to know.

From the very beginning I felt a connection with you and Chuck. I am extremely thankful that our paths crossed at the Pearl Harbor Yacht Club, and all of our crazy sailing ventures, You and Charles helped me so much in my every day life.

Sarah, I just learned of Chuck's death. Sorry. I am a fellow USMA graduate 63 as well as a fellow Virginian - born in Newport News, now live near Lynchburg. I have lots of relatives in the Petersburg - Colonial Heights area. If Sandy or I may help in any way, let us know.

Dear Sarah,
It is with sincere condolences and a deep respect and love for Chuck that I write you. I was Chuck's roommate during our third or Cow year at the Academy. There are few people in life that you feel a strong enough bond with to call them a life-long friend. Chuck has always been that to me. Though we strayed from each other through the years by my departure from the Military, he has always remained close to me in thought as a gentle, warm, quiet, yet dynamic leader. As is true for so many others he touched, I am a better, richer person for having known him. There is a day ahead when he and I will meet face to face. I look forward to our reunion.

Dear Sarah,
Chuck was my roommate (wife) '61-'62 at West Point. Fate reunited Chuck, you & I in May 2005 at the motel we all shared during the Distinguished Graduate Awards & H-2 reunion at West Point. My heartfelt prayers go out to you and your combined family members in this time of great loss. I am deeply touched...

Sarah,
Was great spending some time with you and Chuck at the 40th reunion. Obviously you two were great together.
Our company at West Point was an odd ball group, affectionately known as "Humpty Two". Chuck rose above this chaos and was a stabalizing factor for many of us in H-2, and a true friend to many in our Class.
I am sure he will be deeply missed by his family, and by the H-2 family at all future West Point reunions. Take care of yourself.

Chuck was a classmate in company H2, West Point, class of 1963. I admired his level-headedness, quiet leadership, dignity, professionalism, and strong sense of duty. He showed us that much could be achieved through dedication and hard work. We've lost a good friend.

I am so sorry for your loss. Chuck was a classmate that I always liked and I have such positive memories of him. Although I only saw him, after graduation, at our reunions, it was clear that the kind, gentle, warm soul that he was remained consistent and true. His passing will leave a hole in our ranks and in our hearts.

I had the honor and privilege to know Chuck as a classmate and H-2 company mate. Serious, but with a twinkle in his eye. Always a friend, ever an inspiration. It will be said, "Well done."

Dear Sarah,
Chuck and I were roomates the first two months of our four years at West Point. I have special memories of Chuck and that shared experience as Chuck was the perfect gentleman and an instant friend. Those were difficult months, especially for me, a kid who just turned 17 and had never been away from home on his own before. Chuck always had a way of finding humor in all that happened and, if there were a time that he never had that winning smile, I never saw it. I will be writing you a letter of some of my memories of Chuck but, for now, let me express Mary and my condolences. We leave you with the comforting thought that Chuck is now with our loving God in a place that has only love, peace and serenity. May God bless you in this time of sorrow.

I only knew Charles for a short time but during that time I found him to be a very caring and helpful person. He was always willing to do what was asked of him. He took great pride in what he did and always had a good one for all.

As a fellow Rotarian, I had a chance to work with Chuck at various workshops. He was such a wonderful person. Nice, helpful, professional, community minded are just a few ways I can describe him. He will be missed! Please know that many thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
