William Smith Obituary

Smith, William E. NORTH GREENBUSH William E. Smith, 88, of Morner Road, North Greenbush, died peacefully June 15, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy. He was the husband of the late Mildred T. (Jubick) Smith and father of the late Edward F. Smith. He is survived by his granddaughter, Linda Smith Ferdinand and her husband Brian Ferdinand; daughter-in-law, Doreen Bryson Smith; and great-grandson, Evan J. Ferdinand. Born and raised in Albany, Bill graduated from Albany High School in 1937. He worked briefly at the Beverwick Brewery before entering the United States Marine Corps in January 1942. In addition to farming full time, he was employed for 20 years by Schaefer Brewery Co. He also worked 20 years for the East Greenbush School District at Bell Top School and the State Capitol as a maintenance supervisor finally, retiring in 1990. Bill had a wonderful sense of humor and positive outlook on love and life. He never failed to make everyone around him smile. He was also a huge horse racing fan and animal lover. I did not know your grandfather but my mother Lorraine is a former employee at OTB and has had nothing but great things to say about him. He was very nice to my mother and I appreciate that. RIP Mr. Smith.

Linda, Please accept my deepest expressions of sympathy in the passing of your Dearest Grandfather. As you know I have spent many good times with Mr. Smith at OTB, I don't remember or could I tell you how we got to know each other so well. My memories of him are only good ones and will remain with me foever. He never had a bad word to say, but he sure knew how to pick those horses... only do I wish I had that luck and talent. He will be missed and has been missed over the last several months. Mr. Smith may you rest in peace and enjoy the reward waiting for you, you truly deseve them. God Bless, Love (OTB) Big Bob
