John Holland Obituary

Holland, John G. Jr. WATERVLIET John G. Holland Jr., 72, formerly of Troy, died Sunday, June 22, 2008 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. Born in Troy on February 6, 1936, he was the son of the late John G. and Rosalie Birch Holland, Sr.. Mr. Holland was educated in Troy and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. While raising his family, Mr. Holland worked at various textile mills, Gurley Co. in Troy, Troy School System and for the Norton Company in Watervliet for 10 years and last at General Electric Silicones in Waterford for 25 years as a chemical operator before retiring in 1988. He also served as a shop steward there. Mr. Holland was a family man who loved his grandchildren and his dog Barney, enjoyed NASCAR and was an avid NY Giants football fan and NY Mets baseball fan. He was the beloved husband of 52 years of Grace E. Amadon Holland; loving father of five sons, John W. (Nancy) Holland of Troy, Thomas E. (Mike McArdle) Holland of Albany, Edward A. (Nancy Quell) Holland of Cossayuna, Scott E. (Colleen) Holland of Troy and Mark N. (Jeannine) Holland of Brunswick; brother of Virginia Holland of Troy and the late Barbara Heyward and Philip Holland; proud grandfather of Michael, Christopher, Joseph, Andrew, Matthew, Elizabeth, Dillon, Maria and Allyson Holland. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet with the Rev. Hap Carrier of St. John's Episcopal Church officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.
