Mildred Kernahan Obituary

Kernahan, Mildred H. ALBANY Mildred H. Kernahan, 95, died Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at her residence. She was born in Schenectady, N.Y., the daughter of the late Henry and Ada Becker Crounse. Mildred was a graduate of Draper High School, Albany and the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Albany. Mildred was a charge nurse in the emergency room at Memorial Hospital for 40 years, retiring in 1976. She was a member of the Memorial Hospital Nurses Assoc. Alumni and Kusky's Senior Bowling League. She loved her kittens, Sissy and Tabby and playing Scrabble. Mildred was the wife of the late Roland C. Kernahan and is survived by a son, Dennis R. (Helen) Kernahan, Albany; a daughter, Donna Garrie, Mechanicville; grandchildren, Christopher (Erin) and Michael Garrie and Ricky David; great-grandson, Kyle Garrie. She was predeceased by a sister, Anita Stead and brothers, Orville Crounse and Howard Vosburg. The family gives a special thank you to Dr. and Mrs. Aliwalas for their care and concern, Alice and Sandy of Community Hospice for their care and also neighbors, Richard and Scott for their assistance. Funeral service will be Saturday, 11 a.m., July 12, 2008 at the Frederick Funeral Home, 633 Central Avenue, Albany. Relatives and friends are also invited to call Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be in Memory's Garden Cemetery, Colonie. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to the Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205 or the Purrfect Companions, 501 Second Street, Albany, NY 12206.

Donna, chris & Michael,

I'm sorry I couldn't be there with you but I want you to know how much I thought of your mother. She was a great example of energy, love of her profession, and kindness. I will miss her. I'm so glad she was able to stay in her home and care for herself until the end but sorry she had to suffer at the end. My prayers have been with you.
