Joseph Sapienza Obituary

Sapienza, Joseph J. GREENVILLE Joseph J. Sapienza, 89, of Greenville, N.Y., passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2008 in the Good Samaritan Lutheran Nursing and Rehab Center in Delmar, N.Y. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on July 4, 1919, son of the late Carmello and Marie Sapienza. Joe served his country during World War II in the US Army in Central Europe, Naples-Foggia, Rhineland, Rome-Arno, Sicily and Southern France. Joe was a bus driver with the New York City Transit Authority until his retirement. He was a member of the Greenville American Legion Post #291. An avid cook, he liked to travel to Atlantic City and Foxwoods and was an excellent caregiver and friend to all he met. Joe was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Sapienza in 2006; two brothers, Michael and Anthony Sapienza; and two sisters, Grace Rappa and Lillian Pennisi. Surviving are his two stepchildren, Elizabeth Malanga (Joe) of Albany, N.Y. and Anthony Mastroianni (Susan) of Ohio; nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the nurses and nurses' aids at Good Samaritan Nursing Home for their kind care. Funeral service will be on Monday, July 14, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, N.Y. 12083. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. The Greenville American Legion Post #291 will conduct a service at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Interment will be in the Greenville Cemetery. Those who desire may contribute in his memory to the Community Hospice of Albany County, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205-3809.
