Elizabeth Folmsbee Obituary

Folmsbee, Elizabeth (Prescott) SLINGERLANDS Elizabeth F. (Prescott) Folmsbee, 83, of Marie Rose Manor, Slingerlands, died Thursday, July 10, 2008 at her home. Born in Albany, N.Y., May 8, 1925, she was the daughter of the late John and Beatrice (Wadleigh) Prescott and the wife of Harold E. Folmsbee Sr. She is the beloved mother of Douglas Depew of Albany, Patricia Lutzy (Douglas) of North Greenbush, Leslie Depew of Selkirk, Robert Fitzwilliam of Plattsburgh, John Haley (Michele) of Ghent, Prescott Haley (Marcia) of Red Rock and Harold Folmsbee Jr. (Jackie) of Red Hook, N.Y.; sister of John F. Prescott Jr. of East Greenbush and Marjorie Welch of Albany; grandmother to Gina Depew, Jeffery VanBlarcom (Ashley), Gregory Prindle, Sarah Lutzy, Joseph McGrath, Jillian Griffin and Grace Folmsbee; great-grandmother to Bridget and Welsey Kilmer, Collin Wiltsie, Harris and Sheridan VanBlarcom; and many nieces and nephews. She was a devoted friend of the late Donald Allen. Betty loved to read, talk about and swap books. Her most favorite activity was a gathering with family and friends. For Betty, any reason for a party was a good one. Though she grew up in Albany, she was most content in a country setting and, for many years, lived in Columbia County where she worked as an aid at Barnwell Nursing Home. When she vacationed, her favorite destination was Maine. Betty was a homebody with an open door policy where all were welcome anytime. After dropping by Betty's place, where she'd offer up a laugh, some food and a caring, compassionate ear, each person always left feeling special and somehow lighter. She devoted her life to helping and caring for others, whether it was hands on dressing the wound of a friend or networking on the phone to find an item for someone in need, if Betty knew you wanted for anything, she'd find it for you. Betty was deeply devoted to her family and friends and her fun loving laughing spirit and beautiful kind heart will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:15 a.m. from the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Inc., Route 9, Valatie with the service conducted by Rev. Darius Magalotti. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Valatie. Friends may call Monday morning 9-11 prior to the service at the funeral home. For those who wish, contributions may be made to either the Valatie Rescue Squad, POB 242, Valatie, NY 12184 or the Albany County Hospice, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.

Although I did not know Elizabeth personally, I do have the privilege of knowing her daughter, Patty. If Elizabeth was anything like her daughter, then I know she'll be truly missed for a long time, as Patty is such a great person and friend. My deepest condolences to all of Elizabeth's loved ones.

To Betty's Family,

This world has lost a very special angel, but there's a lot of laughter in Heaven now. I'm sure my mom greeted her dearest friend with a warm hug, and they're probably listening to Glenn Miller tunes and reminiscing about their many zany escapades. I know Betty felt so blessed to have each and every one of you in her life. She talked about you all the time, her voice filled with love and pride. There's a saying that, when your mother dies, you feel as though the wind is blowing through a small hole in your heart. I did find that to be true, but I also know that your hearts will forever be overflowing with the powerful love she showered upon you. May God bless all of you.
