Charles Palella Obituary

Palella, Charles ALBANY Charles Palella, 97, died Friday, July 11, 2008, at St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born August 6, 1910 in Antillo, Italy, he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Flavia (DiBlasi) Palella. Charlie emigrated to the United States at the age of three and settled with his family in Albany. He worked for many years in the textile industry, working for Albany Woolen Mills in Rensselaer and Burkart Mills in Mechanicville. He later worked for the NYS OGS and retired in 1976. After retirement, he worked for several years at the Albany YMCA. He enjoyed music, singing and playing his banjo. Just two months ago, Charlie was still dancing every Wednesday night at the Louise Corning Senior Citizen Center and went to the OTB Teletheater every day, which brought him great joy, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. Husband of the late Carmella "Millie" (Farinella) Palella; father of Joseph (Margaret) Palella of Montvale, N.J., Mary Theresa (Charles) Mirabile of Albany and the late Charles M. Palella; father-in-law of Geraldine Palella of Newport, N.C.; brother of Rose (Arthur) Casella, and the late Josephine Ferrandino, Mary Dianora and John Palella; brother-in-law of Delina Palella; loving grandfather of Charles M. Palella Jr. , Howard, Michael, Joseph and David Palella, Gail Hunter and Joseph, Daniel and Matthew Mirabile. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere thanks for the care and comfort extended to Charlie by the staff at St. Peter's Hospital and the staff at St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Church, 900 Madison Ave., Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany on Monday from 5-7 p.m. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Charles Palella Interscholastic Athletic Scholarship Fund, c/o Mechanicville High School, 10 N. Main St., Mechanicville, NY 12118.

Theresa and Family,
I was so saddened to hear of your dad's passing. He was so loved at Thurlow Terrace Apartments. We missed him from the first day he left Thurlow. He always had the biggest smile, and kind and precious words to say to me, watching him everyday wait for you to pick him up to go to OTB, was a highlight of my day!
Please know that myself and my staff send our sincere sympathies to you and your family, and we will always remember "CHARLIE".
Take comfort in the happy memories and the longevity you got to share with your dad.
Thurlow Terrace staff, Mary, Steve and Carlos
