Robert Poirier Obituary

Poirier, Robert L. NORTH PORT, Fla. Robert L. Poirier, 78, formerly of Scotia, N.Y., passed away peacefully at his home in North Port on Saturday, June 21, 2008. Born in Schenectady, N.Y., he was the son of the late Bertha (Thibodeau) and Robert L. Poirier Sr. Bob graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and served in the Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Ellyson. He worked in the gas turbine department of General Electric Co. and retired in 1987. Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing, and had a great love for the game of golf. He was predeceased by his first wife, Josephine (Mackiewicz) Poirier. Robert is survived by his wife of 15 years, Irene; his daughters, Susan (Robert) Burke of Colonie, Sharon (Brian) Cuomo of Rotterdam; and granddaughters, Kristyn and Michelle Cuomo. He is also survived by his sister, Irene (Howard) Budge and brother, James (Lorraine) Poirier, both of Schenectady; extended family, Ernie and Rudi (MaryAnn) Gersten-berger, Renate (Terry) Criscone, Christy Lee, Tonia and Cassandra Criscone, Paul and John Gerstenberger. Also, several close nieces, nephews; and cousins; and many friends. He will be greatly missed by everyone he knew. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon, Thursday, July 31, 2008 at St. Luke's Church, Schenectady, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12308 or Tidewell Hospice & Palliative Care, 12731 Tamiami Trail South, North Port, FL 34287. Arrangements are by the Kazyaka Funeral Home.

My sincere sympathy to all the Poirier & Gersten-Berger family members...
Bob was my dear cousin..& although I myself didn't get to see him very often over the years, we will all deeply feel the loss of one of the best guys ever.
